Nacional Montevideo produced one of their most complete offensive performances of the Liga Sudamericana de Básquetbol campaign, defeating Regatas Corrientes 106-96 in a high-paced group-phase clash. The Uruguayan visitors crossed the century mark for the night, answering every Regatas run with timely perimeter shooting and a decisive third-quarter push that turned a tight contest into a double-digit road win.

Match Overview

Played in front of a lively home crowd in Corrientes, the game carried real weight for both sides in the fight for positioning in the continental competition. Regatas came in looking to protect home court and control the tempo with their half-court execution, while Nacional arrived with a clear plan: push the ball, attack early in the shot clock, and force the Argentine side into rotations it did not want to make.

The scoreline reflects how open the game became. Both teams shot the ball well, both teams got into the bonus early in multiple quarters, and neither side was able to build a lead larger than twelve points until the closing stretch. In the end, it was Nacional's efficiency in the middle two quarters that separated the two teams.

How the Game Unfolded

• First quarter: A back-and-forth opening ten minutes, with Regatas using their interior game to stay level. Nacional led 26-24 after one.
• Second quarter: The visitors found rhythm from beyond the arc, stringing together an 11-2 run midway through the period. Nacional took a 56-46 lead into the break.
• Third quarter: Regatas responded. A 12-3 burst, fuelled by aggressive drives and second-chance points, cut the deficit to three and brought the home crowd fully into the game.
• Fourth quarter: Nacional steadied, converting free throws and hitting two crucial contested jumpers in the final four minutes to close out the win, 106-96.

Tactical Story

The decisive tactical battle was fought on the perimeter. Nacional's ball-screen coverage forced Regatas into mid-range attempts early in possessions, while their own offense generated open looks through quick ball reversal. Regatas did damage on the offensive glass and scored well in the paint, but the extra possessions were not enough to offset Nacional's shooting advantage from deep.

Regatas also struggled with turnovers at the worst possible moments, particularly in the second quarter when Nacional's pressure defense created live-ball steals that turned directly into transition points. Those easy baskets proved to be the margin in a game where the half-court offense was largely even.

Standout Performers

Nacional's backcourt controlled the flow of the game, combining efficient shot selection with smart decision-making in pick-and-roll situations. Their wing scorers were the beneficiaries, repeatedly finding space in the corners as Regatas collapsed on the ball. On the other side, Regatas' frontcourt was the team's most reliable weapon, working the offensive boards and finishing through contact to keep the home side within striking distance.

Season Impact

The result is a significant one for Nacional Montevideo, who pick up a valuable road victory in a competition where away wins are hard to come by. For Regatas Corrientes, the loss is a missed opportunity to consolidate their position in the group, and it puts added pressure on their remaining home fixtures. Both teams now turn their attention to the next round of Liga Sudamericana action, where point differential and head-to-head results could prove decisive in the race for qualification.
