Paisas Take Control Late to Beat Defensor Sporting 85-75

Paisas secured an important 85-75 victory over Defensor Sporting in Liga Sudamericana de Básquetbol action on October 25, 2026, using a composed fourth quarter to pull away from a resilient opponent. The ten-point win was not as comfortable as the final margin suggests, but Paisas made the decisive plays on both ends when the game was still in the balance.

Match Overview

The contest opened at a measured pace, with both teams prioritizing half-court execution. Defensor Sporting moved the ball well against Paisas’ initial defensive looks and found success attacking the mid-range area, while Paisas answered through strong interior play and timely perimeter shooting. Neither side managed to build a meaningful lead in the first half, and the game remained tight into the third quarter.

Paisas gradually gained separation by tightening its rebounding and forcing Defensor into tougher shot attempts. The home side’s guards began to pressure the ball more aggressively, creating deflections and extra possessions. In the final period, Paisas slowed the game down, attacked mismatches inside, and converted enough free throws to keep Defensor at arm’s length.

Key Moments

• Third-quarter run: Paisas used a 10-2 burst to turn a one-possession game into a more comfortable lead.
• Defensive stops: Consecutive stops in the fourth quarter denied Defensor a chance to close the gap.
• Late execution: Paisas protected the ball and made key free throws in the final two minutes.

Tactical Story

Paisas won this game with balance. The offense generated points inside and out, preventing Defensor from keying on a single scorer. Defensively, Paisas contested driving lanes and forced Defensor into contested mid-range jumpers. The rebounding battle also tilted toward the home side in the second half, limiting second-chance points and allowing Paisas to control the tempo.

Defensor Sporting remained competitive through its ball movement and transition opportunities, but the Uruguayan club struggled to find easy baskets late. When Paisas increased its pressure, Defensor’s half-court possessions became longer and less efficient. The visitors also missed several open looks that could have changed the momentum during the fourth quarter.

Standout Performances

Paisas received steady production from its backcourt, which managed the game well and made timely shots. The frontcourt controlled the paint and gave the team a physical edge on the glass. Defensor’s best moments came from its wings, who attacked the basket and kept the team within reach for three quarters, but the visitors lacked a final scoring surge.

What the Result Means

The win gives Paisas valuable momentum in the Liga Sudamericana de Básquetbol standings and reinforces their ability to close out tight games. Defensor Sporting leaves with lessons about late-game execution and rebounding discipline. With group-stage positioning often decided by small margins, Paisas’ ten-point victory could prove useful in future tiebreaker discussions.
