Tactical Story

CD Jorge Guzman won this game with balance. They scored 44 points in the paint, converted 18 second-chance points and shot 47% from the field. Their half-court offense relied on high ball screens and quick reversals, which repeatedly opened driving lanes against a Corinthians defense that was aggressive but occasionally late on rotations.

Corinthians were the more dangerous team from the perimeter, hitting 13 three-pointers, but they struggled to contain CD Jorge Guzman’s interior scoring. The Brazilian side also turned the ball over 14 times, and those extra possessions proved decisive in a one-point game. On the boards, CD Jorge Guzman held a slim 39-36 advantage, including 11 offensive rebounds.

Standout Players

• Marlon Acosta (CD Jorge Guzman): 26 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. He was the primary shot creator down the stretch and scored 9 points in the fourth quarter.
• Diego Romero (CD Jorge Guzman): 19 points, including four three-pointers, and 6 rebounds. His spacing kept Corinthians from collapsing on Acosta.
• Rafael Souza (Corinthians): 28 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists. He carried the offense for long stretches and hit several tough contested shots.
• Bruno Ferreira (Corinthians): 20 points and 10 rebounds. His interior scoring and offensive rebounding kept Corinthians in front during the third quarter.

Season Impact and What’s Next

The win improves CD Jorge Guzman’s position in the Liga Sudamericana de Básquetbol standings and gives them a crucial head-to-head advantage in group play. Corinthians, meanwhile, will view this as a missed opportunity after leading late on the road. The two teams could meet again later in the competition, and if they do, the 97-96 result will add another layer of intensity to the rematch.

CD Jorge Guzman will look to carry the momentum into their next continental fixture, while Corinthians must regroup quickly and clean up their late-game execution. In a tournament where point differential and head-to-head results often decide advancement, this one-point finish could resonate well beyond October 10.
