Avellino Basket Beat Cividale 77-62 with Defensive Control

Avellino Basket produced a disciplined road performance to defeat UEB Gesteco Cividale 77-62 in Italy’s Lega Nazionale Pallacanestro Serie A2 on October 18, 2026. The 15-point victory was built on defense, balanced scoring, and a decisive second-half run that took the hosts out of their offensive rhythm.

Cividale entered the matchup looking to use home energy and perimeter shooting, but Avellino’s compact defense and control of the defensive glass made life difficult. The visitors gradually took command and never let Cividale mount a serious fourth-quarter comeback.

Match Overview

The opening minutes were tight, with both teams trading baskets in the half-court. Cividale found some early success inside, but Avellino adjusted quickly, shrinking driving lanes and forcing contested jump shots. On offense, Avellino moved the ball patiently and attacked mismatches, building a modest lead by halftime.

The third quarter proved decisive. Avellino opened the second half with a sustained run, combining transition baskets with efficient pick-and-roll play. Cividale’s offense stalled, and the home side was unable to string together enough stops to close the gap. By the final period, Avellino had established full control.

Key Moments

• Avellino’s third-quarter surge created the separation that defined the game, turning a close contest into a double-digit advantage.
• Cividale’s attempts to press and speed up the game were met with calm ball-handling and easy baskets from Avellino.
• The visitors sealed the result with strong free-throw shooting and disciplined late-game defense.

Tactical Story

Avellino’s defensive game plan was clear: limit Cividale’s clean three-point looks and force the hosts to score through traffic. The visitors rotated well, contested shots without fouling excessively, and controlled the defensive boards. That combination held Cividale to 62 points, well below the kind of output needed to win in Serie A2.

Offensively, Avellino used balanced spacing to keep Cividale’s defense guessing. The visitors generated points from the paint, the mid-range, and the perimeter, making it difficult for the home side to key in on one scorer. Cividale showed flashes of intensity, but their offensive limitations in the half-court proved costly.

Standout Performers

Avellino’s guards managed the game well, controlling pace and making smart decisions against pressure. The frontcourt contributed important rebounds and interior defense, while the bench supplied energy during the decisive run. For Cividale, the effort on the boards was notable, but the team lacked enough shot-making to keep pace.

Standings Impact

The road win strengthens Avellino Basket’s position in the Serie A2 standings and gives them a useful confidence boost away from home. Cividale, meanwhile, will need to review their half-court execution and find more consistent scoring options. The result underlines how quickly games in this league can shift when defensive pressure rises and turnovers begin to mount.
