UEB Gesteco Cividale made the long trip to Puglia worthwhile, defeating Ruvo Di Puglia 86-83 in a Lega Nazionale Pallacanestro Serie A2 fixture that was in the balance until the final horn. A composed fourth quarter from the visitors proved decisive in a game where both teams shot the ball well and neither defence was ever fully comfortable.

Match Overview

The hosts came out firing in front of their own supporters, using ball movement and perimeter accuracy to build an early advantage. Cividale absorbed the pressure, chipped away at the deficit and turned the game into a possession-by-possession battle after the break. The lead changed hands repeatedly in the second half before Gesteco made the plays that mattered in the closing minutes.

Key Moments

• Ruvo's fast start, built on quick ball reversals and open looks from beyond the arc, set the tone early.
• Cividale's second-quarter response — a sustained run on both ends — pulled the game back to level.
• A late sequence of defensive stops and converted free throws swung the result firmly toward the visitors.

How the Game Was Won

The difference came down to execution under pressure. Cividale were more efficient in the final four minutes, scoring on nearly every possession while forcing Ruvo into difficult, contested attempts. Their ability to generate points from the mid-range and at the rim, rather than relying solely on the three-ball, gave them a more reliable late-game offence.

Ruvo had chances. A couple of open looks in the last minute rimmed out, and a turnover with the clock winding down ended their best opportunity to force overtime.

Standout Performers

For Cividale, the guard rotation dictated tempo and delivered in the clutch, while the interior players battled hard on the glass to limit second-chance opportunities. Ruvo's scoring came from a balanced spread, with their wings attacking the basket aggressively and their big men working the offensive boards. It was a genuinely team-oriented performance from both sides, but Cividale's late-game shot selection was the difference.

Tactical Story

This was a game of runs rather than one-way traffic. Ruvo Di Puglia wanted to play fast and stretch the floor, while UEB Gesteco Cividale preferred a more measured half-court approach built around screening actions and inside touches. As the game progressed, Cividale's defensive discipline improved — they closed out harder on shooters and forced Ruvo into mid-range shots instead of clean threes.

The rebounding numbers were close, but Cividale's edge in assists told the story of a team that shared the ball and found the extra pass when the defence collapsed.

Season Impact

An away win in Serie A2 is a valuable commodity, and Cividale will take real encouragement from closing out a tight game on the road. For Ruvo Di Puglia, the margin was agonisingly small, but the performance showed a team capable of competing with the division's stronger outfits. Turning narrow defeats into wins will be the priority as the season unfolds.

What's Next

Both clubs now turn their attention to the next round of fixtures, with Cividale looking to build momentum and Ruvo seeking a response on the road. In a league where every possession counts, this three-point margin may look significant by the time the playoff race takes shape.
