Real Sebastiani Rieti protected home court with a gritty 78-70 victory over Carmatic Pistoia in Lega Nazionale Pallacanestro Serie A2 action, closing out a game they led almost from the opening tip. In a matchup between two teams with playoff ambitions, it was Rieti's control of the defensive glass and their patience in the half-court that made the difference across 40 minutes.

Match Overview

The hosts set the tone early, moving the ball sharply against Pistoia's switching defense and building a lead they never surrendered. Rieti's guards attacked the paint off high ball screens, while their big men sealed deep position for easy finishes inside. Pistoia stayed within striking distance thanks to timely three-point shooting, but every time they trimmed the gap, Rieti answered with a composed possession.

Key Moments

The decisive stretch arrived in the third quarter. After Pistoia cut the deficit to a single possession with a quick 8-2 run, Rieti responded through a pair of second-chance baskets and a transition dunk that swung momentum back in their favour. That burst pushed the lead back into double digits and forced the visitors into a timeout they never fully recovered from.

Down the stretch, Rieti's half-court discipline proved decisive. They slowed the tempo, drew fouls on drives, and converted at the line while limiting Pistoia to contested jumpers on the other end.

Tactical Story

• Rebounding battle: Rieti's dominance on the defensive boards limited Pistoia's second-chance opportunities and fuelled their own transition game.
• Ball movement: The hosts consistently found the open man against the zone, finishing with a healthy assist-to-turnover ratio.
• Perimeter defense: Pistoia generated good looks from beyond the arc but shot inconsistently, and Rieti's closeouts improved as the game wore on.
• Bench contribution: Rieti's reserves provided a steady scoring punch that kept the starters fresh for the closing minutes.

Standout Performers

Rieti's backcourt controlled the rhythm of the game, combining for a high share of the team's assists while committing few turnovers. Their wing scorers found success attacking the baseline, and the frontcourt pairing delivered efficient interior scoring and rebounding. For Pistoia, the guard rotation kept them competitive with timely shot-making, but the supporting cast struggled to find consistent production inside.

Standings Impact

The win strengthens Rieti's position in the Serie A2 table and adds another home victory to a résumé that is beginning to look like a genuine promotion push. For Pistoia, it is a missed opportunity on the road — an eight-point margin that flatters the visitors slightly, given how much of the contest Rieti controlled. Both sides now turn their attention to the next round of fixtures, with Pistoia needing to fix their road form if they are to keep pace in a congested playoff race.
