MiroRadici Finance Vigevano edged Fulgor Libertas Forli 79-74 in a tense Lega Nazionale Pallacanestro Serie A2 contest, relying on a late 7-0 run and clutch free-throw shooting to secure the home victory. The game was close throughout, with neither side able to build a double-digit lead at any point.

Match overview

Vigevano took a narrow 19-18 lead after the first quarter and maintained a 37-35 advantage at halftime. Both teams traded runs in the third period, with Forli’s perimeter shooting keeping them in the game and Vigevano’s interior scoring providing the response. Heading into the fourth, the hosts held a 58-55 cushion.

The final quarter was a back-and-forth affair. Forli tied the game at 68-68 with just over three minutes remaining, setting up a dramatic finish. Vigevano then delivered the decisive blow, scoring seven unanswered points to take control and ultimately close out the five-point win.

Key moments

With the score level at 68-68, Vigevano’s defense forced two consecutive contested shots and a turnover. At the other end, the hosts attacked the basket aggressively, drawing fouls and converting at the line. A corner three-pointer from the wing extended the lead to six, and Forli was unable to recover in the final minute.

Forli had a chance to cut the deficit to two with 40 seconds left, but a rushed three-pointer rimmed out. Vigevano secured the rebound and made the ensuing free throws to put the game beyond reach.

Tactical story

Vigevano’s game plan centered on controlling the paint. They outscored Forli 38-26 inside and consistently attacked the rim off dribble hand-offs and pick-and-roll actions. That interior pressure opened up driving lanes and helped them get to the free-throw line 22 times, converting 17. Forli, meanwhile, relied on three-point shooting and finished 10-of-27 from beyond the arc, but their cold spell in the final three minutes proved fatal.

Defensively, Vigevano switched between man-to-man and a compact zone, disrupting Forli’s rhythm. The visitors moved the ball well at times but struggled to secure defensive rebounds in key moments, allowing Vigevano second-chance opportunities.

Standout performers

Vigevano’s power forward was the standout, finishing with 22 points and 11 rebounds, including several crucial baskets in the fourth quarter. Their point guard added 14 points and six assists, controlling the tempo in the closing minutes. Forli’s shooting guard led all scorers with 21 points, but he was forced into tough shots late in the game. Their center contributed 12 points and eight rebounds in a losing effort.

Season impact

The victory gives MiroRadici Finance Vigevano valuable momentum in the Serie A2 standings and reinforces their strength at home. For Fulgor Libertas Forli, the loss is a frustrating one after they fought back to tie the game, but it underlines the importance of execution under pressure. Both teams will take lessons from a contest that was decided by small margins.
