Key moments

With the game tied at 40-40 early in the third quarter, Voluntari used a 12-3 run to create separation. Andrei Popescu sparked the burst with a three-pointer and a fast-break layup, while Jalen Brown added a tough turnaround jumper. Corona Brasov called timeout, but Voluntari’s defensive pressure continued to force difficult shots and limit clean looks.

In the final two minutes, Corona Brasov trimmed the lead to 79-76 on a corner three from Darius Varga. Voluntari answered with a patient possession that ended in a Popescu mid-range jumper. After a missed Corona three on the other end, Brown secured the rebound and made two free throws to seal the result.

Popescu led Voluntari with 24 points, six rebounds and four assists. Brown added 18 points and seven rebounds, while center Vlad Ionescu contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Mihai Stanescu chipped in 11 points and five assists, giving Voluntari a balanced attack that kept Corona’s defense honest.

Corona Brasov were led by Mihai Dobre’s 20 points and seven rebounds. Darius Varga added 16 points and five assists, and forward Radu Munteanu finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Corona shot 44% from the field but made only 9 of 28 three-point attempts, while Voluntari connected on 11 of 26 from beyond the arc.

Tactical story

Voluntari’s third-quarter adjustment proved decisive. They switched to a more aggressive pick-and-roll defense, forcing Corona’s ball-handlers toward the sideline and away from the middle of the floor. That change disrupted Corona’s rhythm and helped Voluntari build their lead. Offensively, the hosts attacked the paint first and used kick-out passes to create open three-point looks.

Corona Brasov stayed competitive by controlling the offensive glass and getting to the free-throw line, but they could not string together enough stops in the fourth quarter. Voluntari’s ability to execute in the half-court during the final possessions made the difference in a game that was decided by small margins.

What it means

The win gives Voluntari valuable momentum in the Liga Nationala de Baschet Masculin standings and reinforces their strength at home. A balanced scoring effort and a strong third-quarter run are encouraging signs for the remainder of the campaign. For Corona Brasov, the loss is a narrow one that highlights their competitiveness, but they will need to improve their perimeter shooting and late-game execution to turn close defeats into victories.
