Elba Timisoara and Targu Mures produced a tense, hard-fought contest in the Liga Nationala de Baschet Masculin, with the visitors edging a 78-72 result that came down to execution in the closing minutes. In a game where neither side ever truly broke away, Targu Mures found the decisive plays late while Elba Timisoara were left to rue missed opportunities down the stretch.

Match Overview

The six-point final margin reflects just how competitive this fixture was for long stretches. Both teams traded blows through the opening quarters, with the lead changing hands and neither defense willing to give ground easily. Elba Timisoara leaned on their home support and a patient half-court attack, while Targu Mures answered with efficient perimeter shooting and timely stops on the defensive end.

As the game moved into the fourth quarter, the tempo slowed and every possession carried extra weight. Targu Mures managed the pressure better, converting their free throws and protecting the ball when it mattered most, while Elba's offense stalled just long enough to let the visitors pull clear.

Key Moments

• Back-and-forth opening: Both teams started with intensity, trading baskets and setting the tone for a game that would never produce a truly comfortable lead.
• Elba's home push: The hosts used crowd energy to build small advantages, but Targu Mures consistently answered with three-point shooting to stay within touching distance.
• Third-quarter swing: A run from the visitors shifted momentum, forcing Elba into a chase that shaped the remainder of the contest.
• Closing possessions: In the final minutes, Targu Mures executed with composure, hitting key shots and converting at the line to seal a valuable road win.

Tactical Story

Targu Mures' success came largely from their ability to stretch Elba's defense. By moving the ball quickly and attacking mismatches, they created open looks from beyond the arc and kept the home defense honest. Defensively, they did well to crowd the paint and force Elba into mid-range attempts rather than easy finishes at the rim.

Elba Timisoara's game plan was built around controlling the interior and generating second-chance points. That approach worked in stretches, but turnovers and a cold shooting patch in the fourth quarter undermined their momentum. In a six-point game, a handful of empty possessions is often the entire difference.

Standout Performers

The balanced nature of the scoring from Targu Mures was one of their greatest strengths on the night. Contributions came from across the rotation, making it difficult for Elba to key in on a single threat. Elba's leading scorers carried much of the offensive burden, delivering in stretches but lacking enough support to match the visitors' depth when the game tightened.

Season Impact

Road wins in the Liga Nationala de Baschet Masculin are precious, and Targu Mures will take real confidence from leaving Timisoara with a victory. It strengthens their position heading into the next round of fixtures and proves they can close out tight games away from home.

For Elba Timisoara, the loss is a reminder of how thin the margins are in this league. The defensive foundation is there, but converting late-game possessions into points is the next step. With the standings likely to stay congested, games like this one can ultimately shape playoff seeding.
