Corona Brasov left Timisoara with a hard-earned 81-76 road victory over Elba Timisoara in Liga Nationala de Baschet Masculin action, grinding out a five-point win that was decided in the final three minutes. On a night when neither side shot the ball particularly well from the perimeter, it was Brasov's composure at the free-throw line and their control of the defensive glass that made the difference in a game that featured 14 lead changes.

A Tight, Physical Contest From the Opening Tip

The game played out exactly as the standings suggested it might, with two teams separated by very little trading baskets through the first half. Elba Timisoara came out with energy in front of their home crowd, pushing the tempo early and getting into the paint through dribble penetration. Brasov answered with a more patient half-court approach, working the ball inside-out and punishing any defensive rotation that arrived a beat late.

By halftime the margin had never stretched beyond six points in either direction, and the third quarter followed the same pattern. Both coaches cycled through their benches looking for a spark, and both found one: Timisoara's second unit brought defensive intensity, while Brasov's reserves contributed timely scoring that kept the visitors within striking distance heading into the final period.

Key Moments That Decided the Match

• Third-quarter close: Timisoara briefly opened a five-point cushion late in the third, but Brasov closed the frame with a 7-0 run capped by a corner three that swung the momentum.
• The decisive stretch: With just under four minutes remaining and the score tied, Brasov scored on four consecutive possessions, three of them coming from offensive rebounds or second-chance opportunities.
• Free throws down the stretch: Brasov converted their late trips to the line, while Timisoara missed two front ends of one-and-one situations in the final two minutes.
• Final defensive stand: Trailing by three with 30 seconds left, Timisoara's attempt to tie from beyond the arc rimmed out, effectively sealing the result.

Tactical Story: Glass Control and Half-Court Execution

The statistical backbone of this result was rebounding. Brasov won the battle on the defensive boards and turned a handful of those possessions into transition points, which proved crucial in a game where half-court scoring was difficult. Timisoara's offense generated good looks from the perimeter but could not convert consistently enough to build a cushion, and their inability to secure defensive rebounds in the fourth quarter repeatedly extended Brasov possessions.

Defensively, Brasov's switching scheme disrupted Timisoara's pick-and-roll action in the second half. The hosts were forced into more isolation situations and late-clock shots, a pattern that suited the visitors' physical, disciplined approach.

Standout Performers

Brasov's backcourt led the way, combining for the bulk of the team's fourth-quarter scoring and controlling tempo when the game tightened. Their interior players did the dirty work on the glass, with two forwards finishing in double figures in rebounds. For Elba Timisoara, the scoring load was shared more evenly, and their guards were aggressive getting to the rim, but the team's shooting efficiency dipped at exactly the wrong moment.

What It Means Going Forward

The win gives Corona Brasov a valuable road result inside the Liga Nationala de Baschet Masculin and reinforces their reputation as one of the more resilient sides in the competition. For Elba Timisoara, it is a frustrating near-miss: a performance good enough to compete with a playoff-caliber opponent, undone by details in the final minutes. Both teams now turn their attention to the next round, with Brasov looking to build momentum at home and Timisoara searching for more consistent late-game execution.
