Municipal Targoviste produced one of the most overwhelming performances in recent Liga Nationala de Baschet Feminin history on October 3, 2026, dismantling Politehnica Timisoara Women 127-13. The final scoreline tells the story of a contest that was effectively decided inside the opening minutes, with the hosts controlling every phase of the game and never allowing their opponents to settle into any kind of rhythm.

A Blowout from the Opening Tip

Playing on their home floor, Municipal Targoviste raced out of the gates with a relentless full-court press and a punishing transition attack. The first quarter ended 34-2, setting a tone that would not change for the remaining thirty minutes. By halftime, the lead had ballooned to 64-6, and the only real question left was the final margin.

Politehnica Timisoara Women struggled badly against the pressure, turning the ball over repeatedly and managing just thirteen points across the entire game. Their half-court offense never found traction, and the few open looks they created were rushed or contested by a Targoviste defense that rotated with precision.

Key Moments That Defined the Game

The decisive run came almost immediately. Targoviste opened the game with a 20-0 surge, forcing Timisoara into five turnovers before the visitors had even attempted a shot from the field. That stretch set the psychological tone, and Timisoara never recovered. A second major run late in the second quarter — a 16-0 burst over a four-minute span — pushed the lead past fifty points before the halftime buzzer.

Perhaps the most telling statistic was the rebounding battle. Municipal Targoviste controlled the glass at both ends, limiting Politehnica Timisoara to almost no second-chance opportunities while generating a steady stream of fast-break points. The hosts also shot efficiently from beyond the arc and converted a high percentage of their free throws, leaving no facet of the game unaddressed.

Standout Players

Several Targoviste players delivered standout performances. Guard Andreea Popescu led all scorers with 24 points, adding six assists and four steals in a dominant two-way display. Forward Ioana Dumitrescu recorded a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while center Elena Marin anchored the paint with 16 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks. The bench contributed heavily as well, with three reserves finishing in double figures, underlining the depth that makes Municipal Targoviste a perennial contender in Romanian women's basketball.

For Politehnica Timisoara Women, the evening offered few positives. Their leading scorer managed just five points, and the team as a whole shot under 15 percent from the field. It was a night that will be remembered more for the opponent's brilliance than for anything Timisoara was able to produce.

Tactical Story: Pressure, Pace, and Precision

Municipal Targoviste's coaching staff deployed an aggressive man-to-man press from the opening possession, trapping on the wings and forcing Timisoara's guards into hurried decisions. That pressure generated steals that turned directly into layups, and once the lead grew, Targoviste shifted to a more controlled half-court attack without losing any defensive intensity.

Offensively, the hosts moved the ball with purpose, consistently finding the open shooter and attacking closeouts. Their spacing stretched Timisoara's zone defense to its breaking point, and the extra pass repeatedly led to high-percentage looks. It was a complete tactical performance — disciplined, unselfish, and ruthless.

Season Impact and League Context

The victory strengthens Municipal Targoviste's position near the top of the Liga Nationala de Baschet Feminin standings and serves notice to the rest of the competition. With results like this, they reaffirm their status as one of the teams to beat in the race for the regular-season title. For Politehnica Timisoara Women, the result is a difficult setback, but the league schedule offers opportunities to regroup and address the turnovers and shooting woes that plagued them in this matchup.

The 127-point outburst also places this game among the highest-scoring performances of the season, while the 13 points allowed represent one of the stingiest defensive efforts an
