CSM Targoviste Women delivered a strong road performance to beat CS Teleorman Alexandria Women 73-52 in the Liga Nationala de Baschet Feminin on 18 October 2026. The visitors controlled the paint, won the rebounding battle, and steadily pulled away after a competitive opening period.

Match overview

Alexandria began with intent, using home energy to attack the basket and keep the score close in the early minutes. Targoviste, however, settled quickly. The visitors established an inside presence, moved the ball well against Alexandria’s initial man-to-man defense, and built a double-digit lead before halftime. Alexandria’s offense became more difficult to sustain as Targoviste increased its pressure on the ball.

The third quarter proved decisive. Targoviste opened the second half with a composed offensive stretch and pushed the lead beyond 20 points. Alexandria tried to respond with a zone defense and a faster pace, but the hosts could not string together enough stops to seriously threaten the visitors’ advantage.

Key moments

The turning point came late in the second quarter, when Targoviste put together a sustained run fueled by defensive rebounds and transition baskets. That surge gave the visitors a comfortable halftime cushion and forced Alexandria to play from behind. Early in the third quarter, Targoviste landed another blow with a quick scoring burst that effectively took the game out of reach.

Tactical story

Targoviste’s interior defense and rebounding were the defining features of the game. The visitors limited second-chance points, contested shots near the rim, and forced Alexandria into low-percentage perimeter attempts. Offensively, Targoviste played with good spacing, consistently finding the open player against Alexandria’s rotating defense.

Alexandria’s best stretches came when they pushed the ball in transition and attacked before Targoviste could set its half-court defense. But the hosts struggled with turnovers and cold shooting from outside, which allowed Targoviste to control the tempo. The visitors’ bench also provided valuable minutes, maintaining defensive intensity while the starters rested.

Standout performers

Targoviste’s post players dominated the glass and scored efficiently around the basket, while the backcourt managed the game well and made timely perimeter shots. Alexandria’s guards competed hard and created some good looks, but the team’s overall shooting night made it difficult to keep pace.

What it means

The win strengthens CSM Targoviste Women’s position in the Liga Nationala de Baschet Feminin standings and gives the team momentum for the next stretch of fixtures. For CS Teleorman Alexandria Women, the focus will be on reducing turnovers, improving defensive rebounding, and finding more consistent scoring balance. The final score was clear, but the underlying lesson is that Targoviste’s control of the paint made the difference.
