Key moments

The game was effectively decided in the first six minutes. TTT Riga opened with a 14-0 run, forcing RSU/Merks into turnovers and rushed shots. The hosts briefly found some rhythm from the perimeter, but Riga answered with a 20-2 surge early in the second quarter that pushed the lead beyond 30 points before halftime.

Any hope of a RSU/Merks response after the break was quickly extinguished. TTT Riga scored the first 11 points of the third quarter, turning the game into a showcase of their transition attack and bench depth.

Tactical story

TTT Riga’s full-court press was the defining tactical feature. RSU/Merks committed 28 turnovers, many of them leading directly to layups at the other end. Riga also dominated the three-point line, hitting 15 of 34 attempts, while their bench contributed 42 points.

RSU/Merks struggled to handle Riga’s length on the wings and were often forced into contested shots late in the clock. When the hosts did break the press, Riga’s recovery defense was quick enough to contest without fouling. The rebounding battle was similarly one-sided, with TTT Riga collecting 46 boards to RSU/Merks’ 29.

Standout players

Anete Ozola led TTT Riga with 24 points and seven assists, dictating tempo and finding open shooters in transition. Laura Berga added 18 points, while forward Darta Veinberga contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds.

For RSU/Merks Women, Liene Priede top-scored with 12 points. Madara Kalnina added nine points, but the hosts had no answer for Riga’s defensive pressure over four quarters.

Standings and season impact

The result strengthens TTT Riga Women’s position among the title contenders in the Lithuanian Women’s Basketball League and sends a clear warning to the rest of the competition. For RSU/Merks, the defeat is a difficult learning experience, but their focus must quickly shift to ball security and half-court execution ahead of the next round.
