Jonava 63, Šiauliai 79 — Lietuvos Krepšinio Lyga

Šiauliai Take Control on the Road

Šiauliai delivered a composed road performance in the Lietuvos Krepšinio Lyga (LKL), defeating Jonava 79–63 in a game they controlled from the second quarter onward. The visitors' defensive discipline and efficient half-court offense proved too much for a Jonava side that struggled to generate clean looks against a compact, switching defensive scheme.

Game Overview

Jonava opened brightly in front of their home crowd, trading baskets early and keeping the tempo high. But as the first half wore on, Šiauliai began to dictate the terms of the contest, closing out on shooters and forcing Jonava into contested, low-percentage attempts. By the interval, the visitors had established a cushion that they never seriously surrendered.

The second half followed a familiar pattern: Šiauliai stretched the lead with a balanced scoring attack, while Jonava's offense became increasingly reliant on isolation plays that produced diminishing returns.

Key Moments

• Late first half: A Šiauliai scoring run swung momentum and turned a tight game into a double-digit advantage.
• Third quarter: Šiauliai's defensive stops translated into transition baskets, pushing the margin beyond reach.
• Final period: Jonava showed fight and trimmed the deficit slightly, but couldn't string together enough stops to make it a one-possession game.

Standout Performances

Šiauliai's backcourt controlled the pace, distributing the ball and punishing Jonava's help defense with timely perimeter shooting. Their interior players did the dirty work on the boards, limiting second-chance opportunities. For Jonava, individual efforts kept the score respectable, but the team lacked the collective rhythm needed to break down a well-organized opponent.

Season Impact

The win strengthens Šiauliai's position in the LKL standings and underlines their ability to win away from home — a valuable trait in Lithuania's top division. For Jonava, the defeat is a reminder of the work still to be done, particularly on the offensive end where spacing and ball movement remain key areas for improvement.
