How the game unfolded

Jonava made the stronger start, using its home advantage to build a 22-20 lead after the first quarter. The hosts were aggressive on the offensive end and found success attacking the basket, while Neptunas needed time to settle into its half-court offense. The visitors responded well in the second quarter, scoring 23 points and limiting Jonava to 19 to take a 43-41 lead into halftime.

The third quarter was closely fought, with both teams trading baskets and neither able to create meaningful separation. Jonava edged the period 21-20, cutting the deficit to 63-62 heading into the final ten minutes. The fourth quarter was just as tight, and the game remained a one-possession contest throughout the closing minutes.

Key moments

With the score tied at 81-81 and under a minute remaining, Neptunas executed a well-designed play that produced a go-ahead basket inside. Jonava answered with a free throw to make it 84-83, but the hosts could not complete the comeback. A final shot attempt in the closing seconds missed, and Neptunas secured the rebound to seal the victory.

The decisive stretch came in the final three minutes, when Neptunas slowed the pace and forced Jonava to defend deep into the shot clock. The visitors’ patience on offense and discipline on defense allowed them to control the game’s tempo when it mattered most. Jonava had chances, but a couple of missed free throws and a turnover in the final minute proved costly.

Tactical story

Neptunas won this game with execution in the half-court. The visitors moved the ball patiently, attacked mismatches and made timely shots when Jonava’s defense collapsed. Their ability to score in the paint and draw fouls kept them within striking distance even when Jonava had brief runs.

Jonava’s offense was at its best when it played with pace. The hosts scored in transition and used quick ball movement to create open looks from the perimeter. However, Neptunas managed to slow the game down in the fourth quarter, forcing Jonava into more contested half-court possessions. That shift in rhythm was a key factor in the visitors’ narrow win.

Standout performers

Neptunas’ leading scorer was effective throughout, particularly in the second half when the game tightened. The visitors’ guards also handled pressure well and made smart decisions in the final minute. For Jonava, the frontcourt provided strong rebounding and interior scoring, while the backcourt created several good looks, but the hosts could not convert enough of their late opportunities.

What the result means

The road win is an important one for Neptunas Klaipeda in the Lietuvos Krepsinio Lyga standings and demonstrates the team’s ability to execute in close games. For Jonava, the one-point loss is a difficult pill to swallow, but the performance showed the team can compete against strong opposition. In a league where every possession matters, Neptunas’ late-game discipline proved to be the difference.
