Rytas Vilnius secured a hard-fought 79-71 road win over BC Tauragė in the Lietuvos Krepsinio Lyga, using a decisive late run and superior rebounding to pull away in the fourth quarter. The game was close for much of the night, but Rytas’ experience and execution down the stretch proved the difference.

Match overview

Tauragė started brightly in front of their home crowd, leading 22-18 after the first quarter. Rytas responded with a stronger second period to take a narrow 39-38 halftime lead. The teams traded blows in the third, but Rytas edged ahead 60-54 before closing out the win with timely baskets and free throws.

The visitors won the rebounding battle 38-30 and forced 14 Tauragė turnovers, which translated into 18 points. Rytas also shot 82% from the free-throw line, a critical advantage in a game decided by single digits.

Key moments

• Second-quarter response: Rytas used an 8-0 run to erase an early deficit and take control before halftime.
• Third-quarter separation: A 7-0 spurt late in the period gave Rytas a 58-51 cushion.
• Clutch fourth-quarter defense: Rytas held Tauragė to just 17 points in the final frame, sealing the win.

Tactical story

Rytas focused on containing Tauragė’s pick-and-roll attack, often switching screens and forcing ball-handlers toward help. That strategy limited clean looks at the rim and pushed Tauragė into contested mid-range shots. Offensively, Rytas attacked the offensive glass and generated second-chance points that kept the pressure on.

Tauragė remained competitive thanks to strong individual shot-making, but their half-court offense stalled late. Rytas’ depth and composure in pressure moments stood out.

Standout players

Gytis Radzevičius led Rytas with 19 points and 9 rebounds, dominating the interior. Justas Tamulis added 16 points and 6 assists, while Laurynas Stankevičius chipped in 12 points. For Tauragė, Paulius Danisevičius scored 18 points and Laurynas Mikalauskas finished with 14, but the hosts lacked a consistent second-half scoring threat.

Season impact

The victory keeps Rytas in the upper tier of the LKL standings and reinforces their credentials as a playoff contender. Tauragė, despite the loss, showed they can compete with stronger sides for long stretches. Both teams will take lessons from a game that was decided by execution in the final five minutes.
