Gargzdu SC secured a convincing 102-82 road victory over BC Tauragė in the Lietuvos Krepsinio Lyga, using a balanced offensive attack and a dominant second quarter to pull clear of their hosts. The win keeps Gargzdu firmly in the hunt in the upper reaches of the Lithuanian league table, while Tauragė are left to reflect on a night when their defense simply could not keep pace.

Opening exchanges

The first quarter was competitive, with both sides trading baskets and Tauragė's home crowd providing plenty of energy. Tauragė attacked the rim aggressively and knocked down a couple of early three-pointers, but Gargzdu's patient half-court execution kept them just ahead at 27-21 after ten minutes.

That narrow lead would soon become a chasm. Gargzdu opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run, forcing Tauragė into two quick turnovers and a rushed shot at the end of the shot clock. The momentum never returned to the home side.

Quarter-by-quarter scoring

• First quarter: BC Tauragė 21 – 27 Gargzdu SC
• Second quarter: BC Tauragė 19 – 26 Gargzdu SC
• Third quarter: BC Tauragė 22 – 24 Gargzdu SC
• Fourth quarter: BC Tauragė 20 – 25 Gargzdu SC
• Final score: BC Tauragė 82 – 102 Gargzdu SC

Key moments

The decisive stretch arrived late in the second quarter when Gargzdu closed the half with an 11-3 burst, capped by a three-pointer from the corner in the final seconds. That sequence pushed the lead to 53-40 at the break and effectively broke Tauragė's resistance.

Any hopes of a home comeback in the third quarter were quickly extinguished. Gargzdu scored on six consecutive possessions early in the period, mixing inside scoring with perimeter shooting, and the margin hovered around 20 for the remainder of the contest.

Tactical story

Gargzdu's success was built on efficient shot selection and disciplined defense. They consistently generated good looks through ball screens and off-ball movement, avoiding the low-percentage contested jumpers that plagued Tauragė's offense. Defensively, they clogged the paint and dared Tauragė to shoot from the perimeter — a gamble that paid off, as the home side's outside shooting cooled considerably after the first quarter.

Rebounding was another area of clear superiority. Gargzdu controlled both backboards, limiting Tauragė's second-chance opportunities while creating extra possessions of their own. On a night when both teams pushed the tempo, that edge in possession count proved decisive.

Standout performers

• Gargzdu's perimeter scorers combined for a steady stream of points, punishing Tauragė whenever the defense collapsed inside.
• Gargzdu's frontcourt dominated the glass and finished efficiently in the paint.
• Tauragė's guards showed flashes of quality in transition but were unable to sustain consistent production against a set defense.

What it means

With a 20-point road win in the Lietuvos Krepsinio Lyga, Gargzdu SC continue to build momentum and strengthen their standing among the league's playoff contenders. Their ability to win comfortably away from home is a valuable trait in a competition where travel and scheduling often shape results.

BC Tauragė remain a competitive side at home but must tighten their defensive rotations and improve their half-court offense if they are to climb the standings. The next fixture will be an important test of character after a frustrating evening.
