Gargzdu SC Stun Nevezis Kedainiai in Lithuania Cup Road Rout

Gargzdu SC delivered one of the standout performances of the Lithuania Cup round with a commanding 101-86 road victory over Nevezis Kedainiai. The visitors controlled the game from the second quarter onward, turning a tight opening period into a double-digit win that sends a clear message about their ambitions in the competition.

The final scoreline reflects a complete offensive display, but the story of the game was Gargzdu SC's ability to punish mistakes and dictate the tempo. Nevezis Kedainiai, playing in front of their home crowd, started brightly enough but could not sustain their early rhythm once the visitors tightened up on defense.

Match Overview

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with both sides trading baskets and neither able to establish a significant advantage. Gargzdu SC held a narrow 25-22 lead after ten minutes, a margin that hinted at a close contest rather than the blowout that followed. Nevezis moved the ball well in the half court and found some success attacking the rim, but their perimeter shooting was inconsistent.

The second quarter proved decisive. Gargzdu SC opened with a 10-2 run and never looked back, forcing Nevezis into hurried shots and costly turnovers. By halftime the lead had grown to 49-42, and the visitors' confidence was visibly swelling. A 27-point third quarter effectively put the game out of reach, as Gargzdu SC stretched the advantage to 76-63 heading into the final period.

Key Moments

• Early second-quarter surge: Gargzdu SC's 10-2 run set the tone for the rest of the night and forced Nevezis into catch-up mode.
• Third-quarter barrage: The visitors outscored Nevezis 27-21 in the third, turning a seven-point halftime lead into a comfortable cushion.
• Clutch perimeter shooting: Several timely three-pointers killed Nevezis momentum whenever the home side threatened a comeback.
• Late free-throw execution: Gargzdu SC iced the game at the line in the fourth quarter, denying any late drama.

Tactical Story

Gargzdu SC's defensive adjustments after the first quarter were the foundation of the win. They switched more aggressively on screens, closed out harder on Nevezis shooters, and forced the home side into contested mid-range attempts. Offensively, they played with pace, attacking early in the shot clock and exploiting mismatches inside.

Nevezis Kedainiai, by contrast, became too reliant on individual plays. Their ball movement slowed in the second and third quarters, and when the shots stopped falling they struggled to generate second-chance opportunities. The rebounding battle also tilted toward Gargzdu SC, who converted several offensive boards into quick points.

Standout Performers

Gargzdu SC were led by an outstanding all-around performance from their forward, who finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds, consistently winning his matchup in the paint. Their point guard added 18 points and 9 assists, orchestrating the offense with poise and hitting big shots whenever Nevezis tried to rally. A sharp-shooting wing chipped in 17 points, including four three-pointers.

Nevezis Kedainiai had a bright spot in their starting shooting guard, who scored 22 points and kept his team within touching distance during the first half. Their center contributed 14 points and 8 rebounds, but foul trouble limited his impact in the second half. The bench offered little production, and that lack of depth proved costly.

Cup Implications

The win moves Gargzdu SC into a strong position in the Lithuania Cup bracket, reinforcing their reputation as a dangerous opponent capable of winning on the road. For Nevezis Kedainiai, the defeat is a setback that raises questions about their consistency on the defensive end, especially after allowing over 100 points at home. Both teams will now turn their attention to the next stage of the competition, with Gargzdu SC riding momentum and Nevezis searching for answers.
