Key moments

The final two minutes were packed with drama. La Rochelle took a one-point lead on a driving layup, but Rouen answered with a tough contested jumper. After a defensive stop, Rouen added a free throw to go up by two. La Rochelle had a chance to tie or win on the final possession, but Rouen’s defense forced a difficult fadeaway that missed at the buzzer.

Earlier, the fourth quarter had been defined by Rouen’s offensive rebounding. The hosts grabbed several key boards that led to second-chance points, including a putback that tied the game with just over three minutes remaining.

Tactical story

Rouen’s defensive approach focused on limiting La Rochelle’s transition game. The hosts got back on defense consistently and forced La Rochelle into a half-court game. That played into Rouen’s hands, as the visitors struggled to create clean looks against a compact defense.

La Rochelle, meanwhile, controlled the tempo for long stretches and used pick-and-roll actions to generate open shots. But the visitors were undone by a few costly turnovers in the final quarter and an inability to secure defensive rebounds on key possessions.

Standout performers

Rouen’s frontcourt was crucial, providing interior scoring and timely rebounds. The guards also made smart decisions in the clutch, avoiding forced shots and getting to the free-throw line. La Rochelle received a strong performance from its backcourt, which kept the team in the game until the final possession, but the visitors lacked a final answer.

Season impact

A one-point win can be a season-defining result if it builds momentum. Rouen will take confidence from its execution under pressure and its ability to win a game that could easily have gone the other way. For La Rochelle, the loss is a painful one, but the team’s competitiveness on the road suggests it will remain a threat in Pro B.

Rouen will look to carry the same defensive intensity into its next game, while La Rochelle will focus on late-game execution and rebounding discipline.
