Nantes protected their home floor with an 83-78 victory over Rouen in Ligue Nationale de Basket Pro B action, grinding out a result that was built on defensive discipline and clutch execution in the fourth quarter. In a matchup between two sides with plenty to prove in the French second division, the hosts controlled the game's biggest moments and denied Rouen the late run they needed.

Match Overview

Nantes set the tone early, playing with energy on the defensive end and forcing Rouen into difficult, contested shots. The visitors stayed within touching distance throughout, leaning on their half-court offense and a steady stream of mid-range buckets, but they never managed to fully wrestle control of the contest away from the home side.

The game's rhythm was deliberate rather than frantic, with both teams valuing possessions and battling on the boards. That suited Nantes, who led for long stretches and answered every Rouen push with a composed offensive set.

Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown

• First quarter: Nantes 20 – Rouen 17
• Second quarter: Nantes 22 – Rouen 21
• Third quarter: Nantes 19 – Rouen 20
• Fourth quarter: Nantes 22 – Rouen 20
• Final score: Nantes 83 – Rouen 78

Rouen's best spell came in the third quarter, when they trimmed the deficit and briefly threatened to take the lead. But Nantes responded immediately at the start of the fourth, restoring a cushion and holding their nerve as the game tightened in the final five minutes.

Key Moments

The decisive sequence arrived early in the fourth quarter, when Nantes converted back-to-back defensive stops into quick points at the other end. That swing forced Rouen to chase the game, and while the visitors kept the scoreboard ticking with timely three-point shooting, they were repeatedly hurt by offensive rebounds and second-chance points.

In the closing two minutes, Nantes calmly knocked down free throws and forced Rouen into a low-percentage attempt, effectively closing the door on any comeback.

Standout Performers

Nantes' backcourt dictated the tempo, combining patient ball movement with aggressive drives that drew fouls and opened up shooting lanes. Inside, their frontcourt won the rebounding battle and provided the physical presence needed to contain Rouen's interior scoring. For Rouen, the effort was there — balanced scoring and a committed defensive performance kept them competitive — but a handful of careless turnovers in crunch time proved the difference.

Season Impact

This result strengthens Nantes' position in the Pro B standings and reinforces their reputation as a tough team to beat at home, an important asset in a league where home form often decides playoff qualification. Rouen leave with a narrow defeat but with encouraging signs from their defensive structure, and will be eager to convert that effort into points in their next outing as the Pro B season unfolds.
