Poitiers produced a composed and physical road performance in the Ligue Nationale de Basket Pro B on October 22, 2026, defeating Fos Ouest 80-67. The visitors were not spectacular from start to finish, but they controlled the key stretches of the game, defended the paint with discipline and answered every Fos Ouest run with a patient, well-executed possession.

Match overview

The opening quarter was tight, with both teams trading baskets in the half-court. Fos Ouest found some early success through second-chance points, but Poitiers settled quickly and began to dictate the tempo with solid ball movement and timely outside shooting. A 19-18 first-quarter edge for the visitors became a 40-34 halftime lead as Poitiers tightened its defense and forced Fos Ouest into contested shots.

The third quarter proved decisive. Poitiers opened with a 12-2 burst, pushing the lead into double digits and forcing the home side to chase the game. Fos Ouest briefly threatened in the fourth, cutting the deficit to five, but Poitiers responded with an 8-0 run that restored control and effectively closed the contest.

Key moments

The turning point came midway through the third period when Poitiers strung together consecutive defensive stops and converted them into transition points. That sequence changed the game from a possession-by-possession battle into a comfortable road win. Fos Ouest’s late push, powered by aggressive drives and offensive rebounds, gave the home crowd some hope, but Poitiers’ composure from the free-throw line in the final four minutes kept the result safe.

Tactical story

Poitiers won the rebounding battle and limited Fos Ouest to a difficult night from beyond the arc. The visitors’ half-court defense crowded the paint and forced Fos Ouest into long, contested jumpers. Offensively, Poitiers shared the ball well, generated second-chance opportunities and punished the home side’s turnovers. Fos Ouest’s half-court execution improved in the fourth quarter, but the earlier dry spell left too much ground to recover.

Standout players

Mathis Durand led Poitiers with 19 points and six assists, consistently finding gaps in Fos Ouest’s defense. Ibrahim Cissé added 14 points and 12 rebounds, controlling the glass on both ends. For Fos Ouest, Lucas Morel finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, while the backcourt combined for several important fourth-quarter baskets. The difference was Poitiers’ balance: four players reached double figures and the bench provided timely minutes.

Season impact

The win strengthens Poitiers’ position in the Pro B playoff race and gives the club another valuable road result in a competitive league where home advantage often decides tight games. For Fos Ouest, the loss highlights the need for more consistency at home and better shot selection when opposing defenses load up the paint. Both teams now turn to the next stretch of the schedule with clear lessons from this encounter.
