Caen 72-81 UJAP Quimper: Quimper Take Road Win Behind Strong Second Half

UJAP Quimper secured an important 81-72 road victory over Caen in Ligue Nationale de Basket Pro B action on October 21, 2026, using a decisive third-quarter run to pull away from a stubborn home side. The win strengthens Quimper’s position in the early Pro B standings and hands Caen another frustrating home defeat.

Match Overview

The game was tight through the opening two quarters, with both teams trading baskets in a fast, physical contest. Caen started with good energy and found success attacking the paint, while Quimper kept the scoreboard moving with timely perimeter shooting. The visitors held a narrow 39-38 lead at the break after a back-and-forth first half.

Quarter scores: Caen 18-20, 21-19, 15-24, 18-18. The third period proved to be the turning point, as Quimper tightened its defense and forced Caen into several rushed possessions.

Key Moments

Quimper opened the second half with a 10-2 run, capped by a transition three-pointer that forced a Caen timeout. The home side briefly responded, but Quimper’s defensive pressure continued to disrupt Caen’s half-court sets. A late third-quarter surge gave the visitors a double-digit cushion entering the final frame, and Caen were never able to close the gap below seven points.

The decisive stretch came midway through the third when Quimper converted three consecutive Caen turnovers into points, turning a one-point deficit into an eight-point lead. From there, the visitors controlled the tempo and made enough free throws down the stretch to seal the result.

Tactical Story

Quimper’s defensive adjustments after halftime were the story of the game. They switched more aggressively on ball screens, denied Caen’s primary ball-handler space, and forced the home side into contested jump shots. Offensively, Quimper moved the ball well and attacked the closeout, generating open looks from beyond the arc.

Caen struggled to find rhythm in the second half. Their interior scoring dried up, and they were forced to rely on perimeter shots that did not fall consistently. The home side also lost the rebounding battle in the second half, giving Quimper extra possessions at critical moments.

Standout Performers

Quimper’s backcourt paced the attack, with a game-high 22 points and several key assists in the second half. Their starting forward added 14 points and eight rebounds, controlling the glass on both ends. Caen were led by their veteran guard, who finished with 18 points, but support was limited as the home side shot just 38% from the field after halftime.

Season Impact

The victory moves UJAP Quimper into a stronger position in the Pro B standings and reinforces their credentials as a playoff threat. For Caen, the loss highlights the need for more consistency at home, where they have now dropped a key early-season fixture. Both teams will look to build on — or correct — this performance in their next outings.
