Ilirija and KK Krka opened their Liga Nova KBM meeting with plenty of attacking intent, and the contest delivered a finish worthy of the rivalry: Krka edged it 83-82, surviving a late Ilirija push to leave with a one-point road win. The game was decided in the closing possessions, when a single defensive stop and a pair of free throws proved the difference between victory and a narrow defeat for the hosts.

Match Overview

Played at Ilirija's home court on 8 October 2026, the fixture carried the usual tension of a Slovenian league night, with both sides trading runs rather than allowing either team to build a comfortable cushion. Ilirija shot the ball well enough to stay in front for long stretches, but Krka's half-court discipline and rebounding on the offensive end kept the visitors close before they took control in the final minutes.

Krka led by three with under a minute to play, and although Ilirija cut the deficit to one on a quick basket, the hosts could not find the go-ahead score in the final seconds. The 83-82 scoreline reflects how tight the matchup was from the opening tip, with neither team managing to hold a double-digit lead for long.

Key Moments

• Second-quarter surge: Ilirija used a run in the middle of the game to erase Krka's early advantage and take a narrow lead into the break.
• Third-quarter response: Krka came out of halftime with better shot selection, attacking the paint and drawing fouls to swing momentum back.
• Final two minutes: With the game tied and then within a single possession, Krka converted at the line and forced a contested Ilirija attempt on the last meaningful possession.

Tactical Story

Krka's game plan leaned on patience. The visitors worked the ball deep into the shot clock, using ball screens to create mismatches and then kicking out to shooters when Ilirija's defense collapsed. That approach limited turnovers and kept the tempo in a range Krka could manage on the road.

Ilirija, by contrast, played with more pace. The hosts pushed in transition whenever the opportunity appeared and were rewarded with several easy baskets, but their willingness to run also produced a few rushed shots in the closing stretch. In a one-point game, those empty possessions were decisive.

Standout Performances

Ilirija's backcourt carried much of the scoring load, combining aggressive drives with reliable perimeter shooting, while their interior players battled hard on the glass against a physically sturdy Krka front line. For Krka, the difference-makers were the guards who controlled the tempo and the forwards who chased down second-chance opportunities, the kind of plays that matter most in a game decided by a single basket.

Season Impact

The result gives KK Krka an important road victory in Liga Nova KBM play, the sort of win that builds confidence early in the campaign and can be worth a great deal when standings are separated by fine margins later in the season. For Ilirija, the loss is a frustrating one but hardly damaging: a two-point swing in the final minutes was all that stood between them and a win over a quality opponent.

Both teams will take lessons from the night. Krka will point to their late-game execution and defensive composure, while Ilirija will focus on closing out tight games and converting better in the final two minutes. With the fixture ending 83-82, the head-to-head between these two sides now carries a little extra weight for the return meeting.
