The seven-point margin was built on rebounding control, timely three-point shooting and a decisive run in the third quarter.

Nova Gorica Mladi arrived with energy and kept the game close through the opening period. The visitors moved the ball well and found ways to score inside, but Hopsi Polzela gradually imposed their physicality and took control of the tempo.

Match Overview

The first quarter was a feeling-out process. Both teams traded baskets, with Nova Gorica showing confidence from the perimeter and Hopsi doing most of their damage in the paint. Neither defense was able to establish complete control early, and the lead remained small.

Hopsi Polzela began to separate in the second quarter by winning the rebound battle and pushing the ball in transition. The hosts’ guards found open shooters on the wing, and the team’s big men created extra possessions with offensive boards. Nova Gorica stayed within reach but struggled to contain Hopsi’s second-chance points.

Key Moments

The game tilted decisively in the third quarter. Hopsi Polzela put together a sustained run, capped by back-to-back three-pointers, to open a double-digit advantage. Nova Gorica responded with a quick burst of its own, but the hosts had an answer each time the visitors threatened to close the gap.

• Hopsi’s third-quarter run created the game’s biggest lead.
• Nova Gorica cut the deficit to three points in the fourth quarter behind aggressive drives to the rim.
• Polzela answered with a clutch corner three and a defensive stop on the next possession.
• Late free throws sealed the win for the home side.

Nova Gorica had one final chance to make it a one-possession game, but a turnover under pressure ended the comeback attempt. Hopsi controlled the final minute and closed out the victory in front of their home supporters.

Tactical Story

Hopsi Polzela’s advantage came on the glass and in the paint. The hosts attacked the offensive boards with purpose, creating second-chance opportunities that proved crucial in a game where both teams had scoring droughts. Defensively, Hopsi tightened up in the second half, forcing Nova Gorica into contested jump shots and limiting easy transition baskets.

Nova Gorica Mladi’s best stretches came when they played with pace and attacked the basket. The visitors were effective when they got into the lane and drew help defenders, but their perimeter shooting cooled in the second half. A few empty possessions in the fourth quarter allowed Hopsi to keep the upper hand.

Standout Performers and League Impact

Hopsi’s frontcourt controlled the rebounding battle, while the backcourt delivered important shots in the second half. Nova Gorica’s guards kept the visitors competitive with dribble penetration, but the team could not match Hopsi’s physicality for the full 40 minutes.

The win gives Hopsi Polzela a valuable home result in the Liga Nova KBM standings and reinforces their ability to win with defense and rebounding. For Nova Gorica Mladi, the loss is a learning moment in a competitive league, but the fight shown in the fourth quarter suggests the team can stay in games against experienced opponents.
