Match Overview

CAB Estepona Women controlled the game from the opening minutes, but it was their second-quarter surge that broke the contest open. Estudiantes struggled to find offensive rhythm against Estepona’s switching defense, and the visitors capitalized with timely three-point shooting and second-chance points.

Estudiantes Women had moments of promise, particularly in the third quarter, but they could not string together enough stops to mount a serious comeback. The loss leaves them searching for consistency on both ends of the floor.

Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown

Key Moments

The turning point came midway through the second quarter. With Estepona holding a narrow lead, they went on a 10-0 run fueled by back-to-back steals and a pair of corner three-pointers. That burst pushed the advantage into double digits and forced Estudiantes to call timeout.

Estudiantes briefly threatened in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 12 points after a 7-2 run, but Estepona answered immediately with a three-point play and a defensive stop. From there, the visitors managed the game expertly, draining clock and converting free throws.

Standout Players

CAB Estepona Women’s backcourt set the tone on both ends. Their guards combined for 28 points and five steals, repeatedly disrupting Estudiantes’ entry passes. The frontcourt also delivered, controlling the defensive glass and limiting second-chance opportunities for the home side.

For Estudiantes Women, the performance of their interior players was a bright spot. They battled on the boards and scored efficiently when given touches, but the team’s perimeter shooting struggled all afternoon. The hosts finished with a low three-point percentage, which allowed Estepona to pack the paint.

Tactical Story

Estepona’s defensive game plan was clear: force Estudiantes to shoot from outside and deny easy post entries. They switched aggressively on screens and rotated well, closing out on shooters without giving up dribble penetration. On offense, Estepona attacked mismatches and moved the ball quickly, finishing with a healthy assist total.

Estudiantes, by contrast, looked out of sync in the half-court. Their ball movement was slower than usual, and they settled for contested mid-range jumpers. Defensively, they struggled to contain Estepona’s pick-and-roll attack, often leaving the roll man open or conceding open threes on kick-outs.

League Impact

The result boosts CAB Estepona Women’s standing in the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto table and gives them valuable momentum on the road. For Estudiantes Women, it is a missed opportunity to climb the standings and a reminder that they must improve their perimeter defense and shot selection going forward.

Both teams will look ahead to their next fixtures, with Estepona aiming to build on this road win and Estudiantes determined to bounce back quickly.
