Valencia Women delivered a composed road performance to defeat Ensino Lugo Women 75-59 in the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto on Sunday, October 25, 2026, using a decisive second-quarter surge and a disciplined defensive effort to take full control of the contest.

Match overview

The opening minutes were competitive, with Ensino Lugo feeding off the home crowd and attacking the paint with purpose. Valencia absorbed that early pressure and led 19-17 after the first quarter, before turning the game in their favour with a dominant second period. A 22-11 run before halftime gave the visitors a 41-28 cushion, and from there they never allowed Ensino to build sustained momentum.

Ensino battled after the break but struggled to string together stops. Valencia kept the pace controlled, moved the ball efficiently and answered every home surge with timely perimeter shooting. The final quarter was played at a comfortable rhythm for Valencia, who closed out the win and kept Ensino at arm’s length.

Key moments

The decisive stretch came midway through the second quarter. With Ensino trailing by just four points, Valencia produced a 13-2 run built on defensive stops and quick transition baskets. Guard Mireia Torres hit back-to-back three-pointers during that burst, forcing Ensino to call timeout. The pause did little to change the momentum, as Valencia extended the lead to 13 by halftime.

Ensino made one final push early in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 60-52 after a strong sequence inside from Lucia Mendez. Valencia responded immediately with a 9-0 run, capped by a corner three from Alicia Brooks, to restore a comfortable advantage and effectively settle the result.

Tactical story

Valencia’s half-court defence was the foundation of the win. They switched effectively on screens, limited clean looks at the rim and forced Ensino into contested perimeter shots. Valencia also controlled the glass, winning the rebound battle 38-31, and scored 21 points off 18 Ensino turnovers. On offence, Valencia shared the ball well and finished with 17 assists, repeatedly finding open shooters against a scrambling home defence.

Ensino’s best moments came when they played through Mendez in the post and attacked the offensive boards. However, their outside shooting never found a rhythm, and too many empty possessions allowed Valencia to dictate the tempo.

Standout players

• Mireia Torres (Valencia Women): 19 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds, including the key second-quarter threes that broke the game open.
• Alicia Brooks (Valencia Women): 14 points and 11 rebounds, providing a strong two-way presence in the frontcourt.
• Lucia Mendez (Ensino Lugo Women): 16 points and 8 rebounds, often carrying the home side’s scoring load inside.
• Marta Varela (Ensino Lugo Women): 12 points and 3 steals, offering energy on both ends.

Season impact

The result strengthens Valencia Women’s position in the upper half of the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto standings and gives them valuable momentum on the road. For Ensino Lugo Women, the defeat highlights the need for more consistent shooting and better care of the ball against pressure defences. Valencia will look to build on the win in their next fixture, while Ensino will target a response in their upcoming home-and-away stretch.
