Isla De Tenerife Canarias Hold Off Baskonia Vitoria in 81-77 ACB Battle

Isla De Tenerife Canarias secured a hard-fought 81-77 victory over Baskonia Vitoria in Liga Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto action on October 19, 2026, using a composed fourth-quarter finish and a disciplined defensive performance to protect home court. In a game that stayed within reach for both sides until the final minutes, Tenerife made the decisive plays on both ends and handed Baskonia a valuable road loss in the early-season ACB standings.

Match Overview

The hosts opened with a 20-18 first-quarter edge, but Baskonia responded with a 21-19 second period to send the teams into halftime level at 39-39. Tenerife regained control with a 22-19 third quarter, then closed the game with a 20-19 final frame. The final score of 81-77 reflected the tight nature of the contest: neither team led by more than eight points, and the outcome was not settled until the closing possessions.

Tenerife shot the ball efficiently from inside the arc and made enough free throws late to keep Baskonia at arm’s length. Baskonia stayed in the game with timely three-point shooting and second-chance points, but the visitors could not find a clean look on their final possession after cutting the deficit to one possession.

Key Moments

• Tenerife used an 8-0 run early in the fourth quarter to turn a narrow deficit into a 68-62 lead.
• Baskonia answered with back-to-back three-pointers to make it 77-76 with under two minutes remaining.
• The hosts converted four straight free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal the 81-77 win.
• A late defensive stop and rebound from Tenerife denied Baskonia a chance to tie in the final seconds.

Tactical Story

Tenerife’s half-court defense was the foundation of the win. The hosts limited Baskonia’s transition opportunities, forced the visitors into contested perimeter shots and controlled the defensive glass in the fourth quarter. On offense, Tenerife leaned on patient ball movement, hunting mismatches inside and attacking closeouts when Baskonia overhelphed.

Baskonia’s best stretches came when they played with pace and moved the ball from side to side. Their zone looks bothered Tenerife for short periods, but the hosts adjusted by attacking the middle of the zone and drawing fouls. The rebounding battle was close, but Tenerife’s late offensive rebounds and free-throw advantage proved decisive in a game separated by just four points.

Standout Players

Tenerife guard Mario Fernández led the hosts with 18 points and six assists, controlling the tempo and hitting key shots in the fourth quarter. Aday López added 14 points and nine rebounds, giving Tenerife a strong interior presence on both ends. Baskonia’s Luka Vukovic scored a game-high 20 points, while teammate Javier Moreno contributed 13 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

Season Impact

The win gives Isla De Tenerife Canarias an important early-season result in the ACB standings and a confidence boost in the head-to-head battle with one of the league’s most competitive clubs. For Baskonia Vitoria, the loss is a missed opportunity on the road, but the narrow margin suggests the team remains capable of competing at the top end of the table. Both sides will now turn their attention to the next round of league fixtures as the playoff race begins to take shape.
