Bizkaia Bilbao Basket outlasted San Pablo Burgos 96-87 in a high-scoring Liga ACB contest on 12 October 2026, riding a strong second-half offensive display to secure an important home win.

Match Overview

The Liga Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto delivers elite basketball every week, and this meeting lived up to the standard. Both teams shot the ball well, both played at pace, and the scoreboard kept ticking through the opening three quarters before Bilbao pulled away in the fourth.

Ninety-six points for the hosts reflected an efficient, balanced offence; the nine-point margin, however, was the product of defence and rebounding rather than shooting alone.

How the Game Unfolded

The first quarter was a shootout. Burgos came out firing from beyond the arc, knocking down contested threes and forcing Bilbao to trade baskets. The hosts answered through interior play, drawing fouls and converting at the free-throw line to keep the game level.

After a tight first half, Bilbao's defensive adjustments made the difference. They limited Burgos' transition opportunities and forced the visitors into longer possessions. Meanwhile, Bilbao's own offence found a rhythm, mixing post entries with drive-and-kick three-pointers to build a lead that reached double digits in the fourth quarter.

Key Moments

• Third-quarter push: Bilbao's run after the break established the game's first real separation.
• Defensive stops: A sequence of three consecutive stops in the fourth quarter blunted Burgos' attempt to rally.
• Free-throw execution: Bilbao's accuracy from the line in the closing minutes kept the margin intact.

Tactical Story

Bilbao's coaching staff emphasised pace and inside-out basketball, and the approach paid off as the game progressed. Their bigs worked the paint effectively, forcing Burgos to collapse and opening clean looks on the perimeter. Defensively, they switched aggressively on screens, unsettling Burgos' pick-and-roll timing.

San Pablo Burgos played well for long stretches, particularly in a first half where their three-point shooting kept them in front of the game. But their defensive rebounding let them down in the third quarter, gifting Bilbao second-chance points that proved decisive.

Standout Performances

Bilbao's scoring was spread across the roster — a sign of a functioning offensive system with multiple reliable options. Their guards controlled tempo and made good decisions late, while the frontcourt delivered on both ends of the floor. Burgos' perimeter players impressed with confident shooting, keeping their team competitive deep into the contest.

Standings Impact

In the Liga ACB, where playoff positions are frequently separated by a single win, a 96-87 home victory carries real weight. Bilbao add a valuable result to their record and keep their home form intact, while the head-to-head margin could matter later in the season.

San Pablo Burgos will take lessons from a game they lost on the glass and in the third quarter, knowing the offensive output was otherwise more than competitive.
