Basquet Girona produced one of its most complete performances of the early Liga ACB season on October 25, 2026, defeating DKV Joventut 101-87 at Pavelló Girona-Fontajau. Girona’s balanced attack and aggressive fourth-quarter defense turned a close game into a convincing home win.

Match overview

Joventut started strongly behind Ante Tomic’s post scoring and Kassius Robertson’s shot-making, but Girona stayed close by pushing the pace and attacking the rim. The first half featured eight lead changes before Girona took a 52-49 advantage into the break.

The game remained tight through three quarters, with Girona leading 74-71. The home side then opened the fourth with a 10-0 run and never let Joventut recover. Girona shot 54% from the field and made 14 three-pointers, while Joventut committed 16 turnovers.

Key moments

The decisive sequence began early in the fourth quarter. Ike Iroegbu hit a step-back three, then found Yves Pons for an alley-oop dunk. After a Joventut miss, Girona’s pressure defense forced a turnover that led to another transition basket. The 10-0 run forced a Joventut timeout and shifted the momentum permanently.

Joventut cut the lead to seven with four minutes left, but Girona responded with a 7-0 burst. Iroegbu’s driving layup and Pons’s corner three sealed the result.

Tactical story

Girona used a smaller lineup to spread the floor and force Tomic to defend in space. That approach opened driving lanes for Iroegbu and created open catch-and-shoot opportunities on the wings. Defensively, Girona pressured Joventut’s ball handlers and rotated quickly to contest threes.

Joventut won the rebounding battle narrowly but could not overcome its turnover problems. Girona scored 21 points off turnovers, a key margin in a game that was close for three quarters.

Standout players

• Ike Iroegbu, Girona: 24 points and 7 assists, directing the offense with poise.
• Yves Pons, Girona: 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks, providing energy on both ends.
• Ante Tomic, Joventut: 20 points and 10 rebounds in a strong interior performance.
• Kassius Robertson, Joventut: 17 points, but he shot just 5-of-14 from the field.

Season impact

The win gave Girona a valuable home result and reinforced its ability to compete with established Liga ACB clubs. Joventut left with lessons about ball security and late-game execution. In a league where home form often decides playoff positioning, Girona’s convincing finish could prove important in the standings race.
