Basquet Coruna edged Bizkaia Bilbao Basket 104-101 in a high-scoring Liga Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto thriller on 4 October 2026, a result that showcased everything the Spanish top flight does best: pace, shot-making and a finish that stayed in the balance until the final possession.

Match Overview

Played in front of a loud home crowd, the contest developed into a genuine shootout rather than the defensive arm-wrestle many expected. Both teams cleared 100 points, and the three-point margin flattered neither side. Coruna's ability to score in bunches from the perimeter and Bilbao's determined interior play kept the game tight across all four quarters, with the lead changing hands repeatedly in the closing minutes.

Coruna set the tone early by pushing the tempo and attacking in transition, while Bizkaia Bilbao Basket responded with patient half-court sets and second-chance points. The final quarter turned into a chess match of timeouts and free throws, and it was the home side's composure at the line that ultimately settled it.

Key Moments

• Opening run: Coruna raced ahead with quick perimeter shooting, forcing Bilbao into an early adjustment on the defensive glass.
• Second-quarter response: Bilbao strung together a scoring burst of their own to trim the deficit before half-time, restoring belief.
• Third-quarter swing: A series of traded three-pointers kept the margin within a single possession for most of the period.
• Clutch finish: With the clock winding down, Coruna converted crucial free throws and forced a difficult, contested look on Bilbao's final trip.

Tactical Story

Coruna's game plan leaned on ball movement and spacing, drawing help defenders and then finding open shooters on the kick-out. Their guards controlled the tempo, choosing when to attack the rim and when to pull up from deep. Defensively, they were willing to concede some size inside in exchange for closing out on the arc, a trade-off that almost backfired given Bilbao's efficiency around the basket.

Bizkaia Bilbao Basket, meanwhile, played through their bigs and hunted mismatches in the post. Their rebounding on the offensive end generated extra possessions that kept the game level, and their bench contributed meaningful minutes. In the end, the difference came down to execution in the final two minutes — an area where the home side was marginally sharper.

Standout Performers

Coruna's backcourt dictated proceedings, combining efficient shooting with low turnovers, while their forwards did the dirty work on the boards. For Bilbao, the interior scoring and physical rebounding stood out, and their perimeter defenders forced several late-clock situations that could easily have flipped the result. In a game decided by three points, nearly every statistical category carried weight.

Season Impact

A win of this nature matters beyond the standings. For Basquet Coruna it is a statement result against a strong Liga ACB opponent, building momentum and confidence in front of their own supporters. For Bizkaia Bilbao Basket, the narrow defeat still offered plenty of positives: a road performance in which they scored 101 points and stayed competitive to the buzzer.
