Movistar Estudiantes 78-65 Caja 87s: Estudiantes control the paint in Primera FEB home win

Movistar Estudiantes delivered a composed 78-65 victory over Caja 87s in Spain’s Primera FEB on September 27, 2026, using a decisive third-quarter run and a dominant rebounding performance to protect home court. The win strengthens Estudiantes’ position in the upper half of the standings and reinforces their reputation as one of the most physically imposing sides in the league.

The final scoreline suggests a comfortable evening, but Caja 87s were competitive early. Estudiantes led 20-18 after the first quarter and took a 38-32 advantage into halftime. The game turned after the break, when the home side tightened its half-court defense and held the visitors to just 16 points in the third quarter while pulling away.

Match overview

Movistar Estudiantes attacked the rim consistently, finishing with a 40-24 advantage in points in the paint. Their guards pressured Caja 87s’ ball handlers, forcing 14 turnovers and converting those mistakes into transition opportunities. Caja 87s stayed within striking distance through the first half thanks to timely three-point shooting, but they could not match Estudiantes’ interior production over 40 minutes.

By the fourth quarter, the home side had built a cushion and managed the game with veteran patience. Caja 87s never fully disappeared, but every mini-run was answered by an Estudiantes basket inside or a trip to the free-throw line.

Tactical story: defense and rebounding

The most important statistical battle came on the glass. Estudiantes out-rebounded Caja 87s 39-30, including a 14-7 edge on the offensive boards. That second-chance production repeatedly extended possessions and prevented the visitors from gaining momentum. Defensively, Estudiantes switched aggressively on screens and forced Caja 87s into contested mid-range jumpers late in the shot clock.

Caja 87s tried to spread the floor with four perimeter players, but Estudiantes’ wing defenders closed out well and limited clean catch-and-shoot looks. When the visitors did find seams, they often had to contend with a rotating help defender at the rim.

Standout performers

Estudiantes’ starting point guard finished with 16 points and 7 assists, controlling the tempo and making key decisions in the third quarter. Their power forward added 14 points and 9 rebounds, while the center contributed 12 points and 3 blocks. Caja 87s’ shooting guard led all scorers with 19 points, but he received limited support in the second half.

What the result means

For Movistar Estudiantes, the win is another step in a long season built around promotion ambition. The club’s home form will be central to that goal, and this was a textbook performance: defend, rebound, run. Caja 87s, meanwhile, will take positives from their first-half competitiveness, but they must find more half-court offense when their jump shots are not falling.
