Lucentum Alicante produced one of the most emphatic performances of the Spain Primera FEB season so far, routing Gipuzkoa Basket 106-66 on Sunday, October 25, 2026, in a game they controlled from the opening minutes.

Match overview

Lucentum set the tone immediately with intense defensive pressure and a fast, aggressive offence. They raced to a 29-14 lead after the first quarter and never allowed Gipuzkoa to settle. The second quarter followed a similar pattern, with Alicante’s bench extending the advantage and the hosts taking a commanding 54-32 lead into halftime.

The third quarter was arguably the most impressive for Lucentum, who continued to move the ball sharply and converted several open looks from beyond the arc. By the end of the period, the lead had grown to 81-48. The final ten minutes were played with the result already secure, but Alicante maintained their standards and crossed the 100-point mark late in the game.

Key moments

The first-quarter run that changed the complexion of the game came early. With the score at 7-5, Lucentum unleashed a 17-2 surge, highlighted by three consecutive three-pointers and a pair of fast-break dunks. Gipuzkoa called two timeouts in the spell but could not slow the hosts’ rhythm. By the end of the first quarter, the tone was set.

Another decisive moment arrived midway through the third. Leading 60-41, Lucentum scored 14 unanswered points over a four-minute stretch, turning a competitive margin into a full rout. From there, the only remaining question was the final scoreline.

Tactical story

Lucentum’s offensive execution was outstanding. They finished with 26 assists, shot 14-of-31 from three-point range and consistently attacked the paint when Gipuzkoa closed out hard on shooters. Their transition game was particularly damaging, producing 24 fast-break points. Defensively, Alicante forced 19 turnovers and limited Gipuzkoa to 39% shooting from the field.

The bench was a major factor. Lucentum’s reserves contributed 44 points and maintained the same energy level as the starters, allowing the coaching staff to rotate freely and keep the pressure high for the full 40 minutes.

Standout players

• Sergio Vidal (Lucentum Alicante): 21 points, 7 assists and 3 steals, controlling the tempo throughout.
• Ivan Petrovic (Lucentum Alicante): 18 points and 10 rebounds, dominating the interior on both ends.
• Aitor Mendia (Gipuzkoa Basket): 14 points and 5 rebounds, one of the few bright spots for the visitors.
• Pablo Ferrer (Lucentum Alicante): 15 points off the bench, including four three-pointers.

Season impact

The 40-point win is a major statement in the Spain Primera FEB playoff race and gives Lucentum Alicante a significant boost to their point differential. It also reinforces their credentials as one of the league’s most dangerous offensive teams. Gipuzkoa Basket, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly after a difficult night defensively. Lucentum’s next challenge will be maintaining that intensity on the road, while Gipuzkoa will focus on restoring their defensive structure.
