Gipuzkoa Basket 86-90 A.D. Sousas Ourense: Ourense Take Road Win in Primera FEB Shootout

A.D. Sousas Ourense left the Basque Country with a 90-86 road victory over Gipuzkoa Basket in Spain's Primera FEB, winning a fast-paced contest that stayed undecided until the final minute. In a game featuring 176 combined points, the visitors' efficiency in the half court and their composure at the free-throw line proved to be the difference.

Match Overview

The opening quarter was played at a high tempo, with both sides happy to trade baskets early. Gipuzkoa Basket found success attacking the paint, using ball screens to create driving lanes and kicking out to open shooters when the defense collapsed. A.D. Sousas Ourense answered with patient offensive sets, moving the ball from side to side until a mismatch appeared inside.

Neither team managed a decisive run before the interval, and the halftime margin remained within a couple of possessions. The third quarter brought the night's biggest swing: Ourense tightened its defensive rotations, forced a string of difficult shots, and converted the resulting rebounds into quick points at the other end, briefly opening a double-digit advantage.

Key Moments

• Third-quarter break: A.D. Sousas Ourense used a sustained scoring run to build its largest lead of the game, sparked by defensive stops and transition finishing.
• Gipuzkoa's fightback: The hosts responded with an 8-0 stretch of their own, cutting the deficit to a single basket and bringing the home crowd back into the game.
• Closing possessions: Trailing late, Gipuzkoa had chances to level but could not convert, while Ourense iced the result from the charity stripe.

Tactical Story

This was a matchup of contrasting offensive philosophies. Gipuzkoa Basket wanted pace, early offense and three-point volume, and they generated plenty of good looks from beyond the arc. The problem was the defensive end, where help rotations arrived a step late and Ourense's interior players punished them with efficient finishing around the rim.

A.D. Sousas Ourense played the more controlled game. Their half-court offense prioritized getting the ball into the paint before reversing it, which produced high-percentage shots and drew fouls at a steady rate. Defensively, they were willing to concede some contested perimeter attempts in order to protect the basket, and that trade-off worked in their favor over 40 minutes.

Standout Performances

Ourense's leading scorer carried the offense through its best stretches, mixing drives with pull-up jumpers and drawing enough contact to reach the line repeatedly. Their primary playmaker was equally important, dictating tempo and finding shooters when Gipuzkoa's defense over-helped.

For Gipuzkoa Basket, the standout effort came from a perimeter scorer who kept the hosts within striking distance with timely three-point shooting. Their rebounding effort on the offensive glass also created extra possessions that nearly turned the game. In the end, though, the hosts' shooting cooled at the worst possible moment, and the visitors capitalized.

Season Impact

Road wins in Primera FEB are notoriously difficult to secure, which makes this result especially valuable for A.D. Sousas Ourense. It strengthens their position in the standings and adds a quality away performance to their résumé as the promotion race takes shape.

Gipuzkoa Basket will view the loss as a missed opportunity. Scoring 86 points at home is usually enough to win, and the result puts added emphasis on tightening up defensively in the coming weeks. The team's offensive identity is clear and productive; the next step is making stops when games reach their decisive moments.
