Alimerka Oviedo Baloncesto produced a statement performance on October 11, 2026, defeating Fibwi Palma 99-86 at the Pabellón Municipal de Deportes de Oviedo in Spain's Primera FEB. The victory lifts Oviedo's early-season record and signals their intent in a competitive second division that rewards offensive efficiency and depth.

The game was played at a frenetic pace from the opening tip. Oviedo raced out to a 28-20 lead after the first quarter, using a 10-0 run midway through the period to seize control. Fibwi Palma responded with a 7-0 spurt of their own in the second quarter, but the home side's three-point shooting kept them at arm's length, taking a 52-41 advantage into halftime.

Second-half surge seals the deal

The third quarter proved decisive. Oviedo opened with an 11-2 run, capped by a transition dunk that forced Fibwi Palma into a timeout. The visitors briefly cut the deficit to 12 points late in the third, but Oviedo's bench provided a spark, extending the lead to 78-60 heading into the final frame. Palma never threatened again, as Oviedo cruised to a 13-point win.

Key moments and turning point

The turning point came with 4:32 left in the third quarter. With Oviedo leading 64-52, Fibwi Palma had a chance to cut the lead to single digits, but a missed open three-pointer led to a fast-break layup for Oviedo. On the next possession, Oviedo's point guard stole the ball and found a trailing big man for an and-one dunk. That five-point swing in eight seconds pushed the lead to 17 and effectively ended Palma's resistance.

Standout performers

Oviedo's balanced attack was led by shooting guard Javier Méndez, who finished with a game-high 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Power forward Nikola Jovanović added 18 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double, dominating the paint. Point guard Carlos Ruiz orchestrated the offense with 12 points and 9 assists, while reserve wing Álvaro Torres chipped in 13 points off the bench.

For Fibwi Palma, American import Marcus Johnson scored 21 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, but he received limited support. Shooting guard Pablo Ferrer added 15 points, but the team shot just 38% from the field and committed 16 turnovers, which Oviedo converted into 22 points.

Tactical breakdown

Oviedo's game plan was clear: push the tempo and attack the rim early. They outscored Palma 48-32 in the paint and shot 52% from the field. Defensively, Oviedo switched aggressively on screens, forcing Palma into contested jumpers. Palma, meanwhile, struggled to contain Oviedo's pick-and-roll, often leaving the roll man open for easy baskets. The rebounding battle was even (38-36 in Oviedo's favor), but Oviedo's 12 offensive rebounds led to 18 second-chance points.

Primera FEB standings and season impact

With the win, Alimerka Oviedo Baloncesto improves to 4-1 in the early Primera FEB standings, keeping pace with the league's top teams. Fibwi Palma drops to 2-3 and will need to shore up their defense to climb the table. The Primera FEB is known for its grueling schedule and competitive balance, and this result shows Oviedo could be a legitimate promotion contender. Next up, Oviedo travels to face a tough opponent, while Palma returns home looking to bounce back. For fans following Spanish basketball, this was a clear message: Oviedo's offense is clicking on all cylinders.
