Motilones del Norte edged Caimanes del Llano 108-106 in a tense, high-scoring Liga de Baloncesto matchup on October 18, 2026, sealing the win with a final defensive stand after trading leads throughout the fourth quarter. The two-point margin made for a dramatic finish and gave the home side a valuable result in the league standings.

Match overview

The game was played at a fast pace from the opening tip, with both teams comfortable pushing the ball and attacking early in the shot clock. Motilones del Norte built a narrow 27-24 lead after the first quarter, but Caimanes del Llano responded with a stronger second period to take a 53-52 advantage into halftime. The third quarter swung back toward the home team, and Motilones carried an 82-79 cushion into the final ten minutes.

How Motilones del Norte found the winning edge

Motilones del Norte won this game in the small details: second-chance points, free-throw discipline, and a handful of timely defensive stops in the closing minutes. The home side finished with a slight rebounding advantage and repeatedly punished Caimanes on the offensive glass, turning extra possessions into crucial points. When the pace slowed in the fourth quarter, Motilones were able to create cleaner looks through guard penetration and ball movement.

Caimanes del Llano were never far behind and often looked like the more explosive team in transition. Their perimeter shooting kept them in contact, and they briefly seized control in the final two minutes. But Motilones answered each run with a composed possession, avoiding the rushed shots that can decide tight basketball games.

Key moments down the stretch

• With just over two minutes remaining, Caimanes del Llano moved ahead 103-100 after a pull-up jumper and a pair of free throws.
• Motilones responded through a driving layup, then tied the game at 104-104 with under a minute to play.
• A step-back three from the home backcourt gave Motilones a 107-104 lead with 38 seconds left.
• Caimanes cut the deficit to 107-106 on a strong baseline drive, but Motilones made one of two free throws at the other end to restore a two-point cushion.
• Caimanes had a final look from beyond the arc, but the attempt rimmed out, allowing Motilones to close out the 108-106 win.

Standout performers

Édgar Sandoval was the catalyst for Motilones del Norte, scoring a team-high 27 points and knocking down several difficult shots in the fourth quarter. His step-back three in the final minute proved to be the decisive basket. Miguel Ángel Rojas added 21 points and 12 rebounds, giving the home side a consistent interior presence on both ends, while point guard Jairo Camargo finished with 12 points and nine assists, controlling the tempo when the game became chaotic.

For Caimanes del Llano, Luis Fernando Prada led all scorers with 29 points, mixing three-point shooting with aggressive drives to the rim. Kelvin Ortiz contributed 22 points and nine rebounds, and Samuel Ariza added 16 points off the ball. Caimanes’ balanced attack made them dangerous until the final possession, but they were undone by a few empty trips in the last ninety seconds.

Tactical story

Motilones del Norte did a better job of changing defensive looks late in the game, mixing man-to-man pressure with a compact zone that forced Caimanes into contested jumpers. On offense, Motilones attacked the paint early in possessions, which opened up kick-out three-point attempts later. Caimanes preferred a quicker style, using ball screens and transition chances to generate open looks, and that approach kept them within striking distance for all four quarters.

The free-throw line also mattered. Motilones converted enough of their late attempts to keep Caimanes from completing the comeback, while Caimanes left a few valuable points at the stripe in the second half. In a game decided by two points, those misses were always going to loom large.

What the result means in the Liga de Baloncesto standings

The win gives Motilones del Norte momentum in a competitive Liga de Baloncesto race and reinforces their ability to close out tight games at home. For Caimanes del Llano, the loss is a frustrating one but also a performance that shows they can compete with the league’s stronger sides. The
