Pallacanestro Reggiana held off a determined Derthona Basket side 93–86 at the PalaBigi, grinding out a hard-fought Lega Basket Serie A victory that was far closer than the final seven-point margin suggests. In a game that swung back and forth through three quarters, the hosts' third-period surge proved the decisive passage of play.

Match Overview

Reggiana started brightly, taking the first quarter 24–20 on the back of strong interior play and a couple of early three-pointers in transition. Derthona responded well, winning the second period 24–21 to cut the deficit to a single point at the interval. The game then turned on a commanding 26–19 third quarter from the home side, which created enough breathing room to survive a tense finish.

• First quarter: Reggiana 24–20 Derthona
• Second quarter: Reggiana 21–24 Derthona
• Third quarter: Reggiana 26–19 Derthona
• Fourth quarter: Reggiana 22–23 Derthona
• Final score: Pallacanestro Reggiana 93–86 Derthona Basket

Tactical Story

This was a game of contrasting styles. Derthona, coached to play through their big men and control the tempo in the half court, tried to slow proceedings and win the possession battle on the glass. Reggiana, by contrast, wanted pace — pushing the ball after makes and misses alike and hunting early offence before Derthona's defence could set.

The third quarter showed why that approach works. Reggiana forced a series of turnovers and long rebounds, converting them into quick points before the visitors could organise. Derthona's half-court execution remained solid, but every possession they spent 20 seconds on was a possession Reggiana could answer in five.

Key Moments

• Reggiana's 9–0 run early in the third quarter turned a one-point half-time lead into a double-digit cushion.
• Derthona clawed back to within five with four minutes remaining, only for Reggiana to convert an and-one and a corner three on consecutive possessions.
• Clutch free-throw shooting in the final 90 seconds sealed the result and denied Derthona a late comeback.

Standout Performers

Reggiana's perimeter players carried the offensive load, with multiple guards reaching double figures and combining for an efficient shooting night from deep. The interior rotation held its own against a physically demanding Derthona front line, winning enough of the 50-50 balls to keep the tempo in the hosts' favour. For Derthona, the scoring was spread across the rotation, but a difficult night at the free-throw line and a handful of untimely turnovers proved costly in a game decided by single-digit margins.

Standings Context

With the win, Pallacanestro Reggiana strengthen their position in the upper half of the Serie A table and add a valuable head-to-head result against a direct rival for playoff positioning. Derthona leave Reggio Emilia with credit for their competitiveness but without the reward — and in a league where road wins are precious, that stings.

Both clubs now turn their attention to the next round, with Reggiana looking to build on a strong home record and Derthona aiming to convert strong half-court performances into victories away from their own arena.
