CBK Mersin Women produced a controlled 73-56 home victory over Istanbul GSK Women in the Turkish Women’s Basketball Super League on October 17, 2026, using a disciplined defensive performance to pull away in the second half. The 17-point win was built on Mersin’s ability to force turnovers, protect the paint, and convert defensive stops into efficient offense.

Match overview

Mersin started with good energy and established an early lead, but Istanbul GSK stayed within reach through the first quarter. The game changed in the second and third periods, when Mersin tightened their defense and limited Istanbul’s clean looks from the perimeter. A series of runs either side of halftime gave the hosts a comfortable cushion, and they managed the fourth quarter without allowing a serious comeback.

The final score reflected Mersin’s superior balance. They shared the ball well, attacked the basket with purpose, and made enough outside shots to keep Istanbul’s defense honest. Istanbul GSK, meanwhile, struggled with turnovers and went through long scoring droughts.

Key moments

• Mersin closed the first quarter with a short run to take early control.
• A 9-0 burst in the second quarter pushed the lead into double digits and forced Istanbul into a timeout.
• Early in the third, Mersin delivered a 12-2 stretch that effectively broke the game open.
• Istanbul threatened briefly in the fourth, but Mersin responded with back-to-back baskets to restore order.

Tactical story

Mersin’s half-court defense was the standout feature of the game. They crowded the paint, rotated well on drives, and forced Istanbul into contested jump shots. On offense, Mersin played through their bigs and used dribble penetration to create open corner threes. The hosts also dominated the defensive glass, limiting second-chance points and allowing their guards to push the pace.

Istanbul GSK had moments of good ball movement but could not sustain them. Their three-point shooting was inconsistent, and when Mersin switched to a more physical defensive approach, Istanbul struggled to create quality looks. Foul trouble and turnovers further disrupted their rhythm.

Standout performers

Mersin guard Derya Yilmaz finished with 17 points and eight assists, orchestrating the offense and hitting timely shots. Center Amina Diallo added 14 points and 12 rebounds, anchoring the defense and controlling the paint. Istanbul’s Selma Kaya scored 16 points and competed hard, but she received limited support in the second half.

Standings and season impact

The result strengthens CBK Mersin’s position in the Turkish Women’s Basketball Super League standings and gives them confidence ahead of a demanding stretch of fixtures. Defensive performances like this will be crucial against the league’s top teams. Istanbul GSK will need to improve their ball security and perimeter shooting as they look to climb the table.
