BC Astana vs Turan: Kazakhstan Cup Match Report, 67-60

BC Astana opened their Kazakhstan Cup campaign with a gritty 67-60 victory over Turan on October 13, 2026, at the Saryarka Velodrome in Astana. In a game that stayed close through the first half, Astana used a decisive third-quarter run and a late defensive stand to protect home court and secure a seven-point win in the national cup competition.

The final scoreline reflects a contest built on defense rather than free-flowing offense. Astana never allowed Turan to find a comfortable rhythm from beyond the arc, and their ability to generate second-chance points and paint touches proved to be the difference in the second half. The win keeps BC Astana moving forward in the Kazakhstan Cup basketball bracket, while Turan leave with a valuable but frustrating road performance.

BC Astana entered the game as the home side and quickly established an early advantage behind aggressive transition play and offensive rebounding. The teams went into the locker room separated by just two points, setting up a tense second half.

Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown

Astana controlled the opening quarter 18-14, but Turan answered with a composed second period to cut the deficit to 33-31 at halftime. The third quarter proved to be the turning point: Astana outscored Turan 20-13, extending their lead to 53-44 heading into the final ten minutes. Turan made a late push in the fourth, but Astana's composure at the free-throw line and a pair of crucial defensive stops sealed the result.

Key Moments

• Third-quarter surge: With the score at 35-33 early in the third, BC Astana went on a 12-2 run over a four-minute stretch. The burst was powered by back-to-back steals and a pair of three-pointers from the wing, pushing the lead to 47-35 and forcing Turan into a timeout.
• Turan's late rally: Trailing 63-50 in the fourth, Turan responded with a 10-0 run to make it 63-60 with just over a minute remaining. The comeback was sparked by full-court pressure and two quick baskets in transition.
• Clutch finish: Astana regained control when their guard drew a shooting foul and converted both free throws, then added a fast-break dunk after a Turan turnover. Those four points in the final minute restored a seven-point cushion and ended Turan's hopes of a road upset.
• Defensive stand: On Turan's next possession, Astana forced a contested three-pointer that rimmed out. The rebound was secured by Astana's center, and Turan were forced to foul, allowing the home side to run out the clock.

Tactical Story

BC Astana's game plan centered on controlling the paint and limiting Turan's three-point attempts. The hosts switched between man-to-man and a compact 2-3 zone, which disrupted Turan's pick-and-roll rhythm and forced them into long, contested jumpers. Turan finished the night just 6-of-28 from beyond the arc, a shooting percentage that made their second-half comeback difficult to sustain.

Astana also won the battle on the glass, particularly on the offensive end. Their second-chance points kept the pressure on Turan and prevented the visitors from stringing together defensive stops. When Turan tried to push the pace in the fourth quarter, Astana's guards did a good job of slowing the game down and drawing fouls.
