How the Game Unfolded

Napoli opened with a 21-16 first quarter, establishing a lead they would never surrender. Matelica stayed within reach through the opening period thanks to some timely shooting, but the pattern of the game was already set: Napoli's half-court defense was making every Matelica possession a battle.

By halftime, Napoli led 40-34. The third quarter proved decisive. Napoli came out of the break with renewed intensity, winning the period 20-15 to stretch the margin to eleven, then closed the game out with a 19-15 fourth quarter.

Key Moments

The game's turning point arrived midway through the third quarter. With Matelica within six points and building momentum, Napoli responded with a 10-2 run fueled by defensive stops and quick transition buckets. That burst pushed the lead to fourteen and forced Matelica to chase the game for the remainder of the evening.

Matelica's final push came early in the fourth, cutting the deficit to nine, but Napoli answered immediately with a three-pointer and a pair of free throws to restore control.

Standout Performers

Napoli's perimeter players were central to the win, controlling the flow of the offense and hitting shots at critical moments. Their interior players contributed on the boards and provided a reliable scoring presence near the basket, giving Napoli the inside-out balance that Matelica struggled to contain.

For Matelica, there were encouraging individual performances, but the team's shooting was inconsistent and their offensive flow broke down when Napoli applied pressure. Defensive rebounding was another area of concern, with Napoli repeatedly extending possessions.

Tactical Story

Napoli's approach was patient and disciplined. They worked the ball inside, kicked out to shooters when the defense collapsed, and rarely settled for contested attempts early in the shot clock. Defensively, they prioritized protecting the paint and forced Matelica into lower-percentage perimeter shots.

Matelica's best stretches came when they played with pace and attacked before Napoli's defense was set. But those moments were too sporadic, and their inability to string together stops in the third quarter proved costly.

What It Means

A 15-point road win is a strong result in any league, and Napoli will take confidence from the way they managed the game — leading early, absorbing pressure, and then pulling away when it mattered. If they maintain that level of defensive discipline, they will be a difficult opponent for anyone in the A2 this season.

For Matelica Women, the defeat highlights areas to address, particularly half-court execution and rebounding. The gap between the two teams on the night was not overwhelming, but the margin at the final buzzer was, and closing that margin is the immediate task.
