Basket Alcamo Women 62–46 Galli S Giovanni Women: defence delivers in Italian A2 clash

Basket Alcamo Women ground out a hard-fought 62–46 victory over Galli S Giovanni Women in Italy Women A2, winning with a defensive performance that smothered the visitors for long stretches. It was not a night for offensive fireworks, but Alcamo's control of the tempo and the glass proved decisive.

Holding an opponent to 46 points is a strong statement at any level, and it gives Alcamo a valuable win as they look to climb the A2 standings.

Match overview

Both teams began cautiously, but Alcamo quickly established the terms of the contest: physical defence, patient offence and a determination to win the rebounding battle. Galli S Giovanni struggled to find any consistent scoring source, managing just 10 points in the opening quarter and never fully recovering.

Alcamo's half-court defence was particularly effective, closing down driving lanes and forcing the visitors into contested jump shots. On offence, the hosts were efficient rather than spectacular, working the ball into good positions and converting enough to keep a comfortable cushion.

Key moments

The decisive run came late in the third quarter, when Alcamo scored eight unanswered points to stretch a seven-point lead into a 15-point advantage. Galli S Giovanni's offence had already been labouring, and that burst effectively settled the outcome.

Earlier, a strong finish to the first half had given Alcamo momentum going into the break, with two late baskets inside the paint extending the lead at precisely the right moment.

Standout performers

• Alcamo's interior defence was the foundation of the win, contesting shots and controlling the defensive boards.
• The Alcamo guards managed the game intelligently, limiting turnovers and finding shooters in rhythm.
• Galli S Giovanni's frontcourt battled hard on the glass but received limited support offensively.

A2 season impact

In Italy Women A2, where defensive standards are high and margins are often narrow, a 16-point win is a meaningful result. Alcamo's ability to control a game without needing a huge scoring night speaks to their structure and discipline, qualities that matter over the course of a long season.

For Galli S Giovanni, the priority will be finding more consistent offensive production. Their defensive effort kept them within touching distance for much of the first half, but the scoring drought in the third quarter proved too costly to overcome. The return fixture will offer a chance for redemption.
