Key moments

The decisive run came in the second quarter, when Haifa turned a modest lead into a double-digit cushion. A pair of defensive stops led to easy baskets, and when the hosts added a three-pointer from the wing, the momentum shifted firmly in their favor. Ashkelon tried to respond with a more physical approach inside, but Haifa answered nearly every mini-run, preserving a comfortable lead through the third quarter.

By the time the fourth period began, Haifa led 72-58 and had full control of the game’s rhythm. Ashkelon never managed to cut the deficit to single digits in the final ten minutes, and Haifa closed out the win with disciplined possessions and good clock management.

Tactical story

Haifa’s defensive activity was central to the result. The hosts contested driving lanes, forced Ashkelon into late shot-clock situations, and used their length to disrupt entry passes into the post. On offense, Haifa shared the ball well and punished help defense with quick ball reversals. The team’s balance made it hard for Ashkelon to key in on any single scorer.

Ashkelon had moments of effectiveness in the paint and on the offensive glass, but the visitors struggled to string together consecutive stops. Haifa’s transition game widened the gap whenever Ashkelon missed from the perimeter, and the home side’s bench contributions kept the energy high across all four quarters.

Standout performers

Haifa’s backcourt dictated the pace and consistently found the right pass against Ashkelon’s rotating defense. The hosts also received strong interior play, with their big men finishing around the rim and protecting the defensive glass. For Ashkelon, the effort was there, particularly on the boards, but the team lacked the consistent outside shooting needed to stay within striking distance.

Season impact

The win adds momentum to Hapoel Haifa’s league campaign and gives the team a solid home result to build on. For Elitzur Ashkelon, the defeat highlights the need for more consistent defensive execution and better shot selection when the game starts to slip away. In a league where home form can shape the standings, Haifa’s comfortable margin could prove important as the season progresses.
