KFG Gardabaer won a high-scoring Iceland Basketball Division 1 contest on October 15, 2026, defeating Hamar Hottur 99-89 behind a balanced offensive display and timely fourth-quarter defense. The home side led for most of the night but had to hold off a persistent Hamar Hottur team that kept the game within single digits until the final minutes.

Match overview

Both teams played at a fast pace, but Gardabaer’s efficiency in the half court and advantage on the glass proved decisive. The hosts built a 50-42 halftime lead and maintained a steady edge through the third quarter. Hamar Hottur cut the deficit to six early in the fourth, but Gardabaer responded with a 9-2 run to seal the win.

Quarter-by-quarter: Gardabaer 26-22, 24-20, 25-23, 24-24. Halftime: 50-42. Third-quarter edge: 75-65. Final: 99-89.

Key moments

The game’s decisive sequence came with just under seven minutes left in the fourth quarter. After Hamar Hottur made it 82-76, Gardabaer forced three straight stops and converted at the other end with a corner three, a transition layup, and two free throws. That 9-2 burst pushed the lead back to 15 and took the air out of the visitors’ comeback.

Hamar Hottur had earlier trimmed a 13-point third-quarter deficit with a 7-0 run of their own, sparked by back-to-back three-pointers. But Gardabaer’s response each time showed why they were able to protect home court in a game that featured 188 total points.

Tactical story

Gardabaer’s offense was built on ball movement and dribble penetration. The hosts repeatedly beat Hamar Hottur’s closeouts, either finishing at the rim or kicking out to open shooters. Their interior passing also created easy baskets against a Hamar Hottur defense that had trouble rotating on time.

Defensively, Gardabaer did just enough in the fourth quarter. They switched to a more compact half-court shell, limited Hamar Hottur’s straight-line drives, and forced the visitors into contested three-pointers late in the clock. Hamar Hottur shot well enough to stay close for three quarters, but their late turnovers and missed free throws proved costly.

Standout players

• Gardabaer’s lead guard was the engine, finishing with 26 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds.
• Gardabaer’s forward posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, dominating the offensive glass.
• Gardabaer’s wing added 17 points, including three three-pointers in the second half.
• Hamar Hottur’s top scorer poured in 24 points and kept the visitors within striking distance.
• Hamar Hottur’s center contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds in a strong inside performance.

Iceland Basketball Division 1 standings impact

The victory improves KFG Gardabaer’s position in the Iceland Basketball Division 1 standings and gives them a valuable home win in a competitive league. Division 1 games often hinge on pace and rebounding, and Gardabaer won both categories when it mattered. Hamar Hottur will take encouragement from their offensive output but will need to tighten their defense and late-game execution.

With the season still developing, this result could matter in the race for playoff positioning. The head-to-head edge now belongs to Gardabaer, and their 10-point margin may also help if tiebreakers come into play later in the campaign.

What’s next

KFG Gardabaer will look to continue their home-court success in the next round, while Hamar Hottur return home aiming to bounce back. Both teams have shown they can score at a high rate, so a rematch later in the season would be one to watch for fans following the Iceland Basketball Division 1 results and top scorers.
