Valur Reykjavik secured an impressive 93-85 road victory over UMFN Njardvik in the Iceland Basketball Premier League on Friday night. The visitors used a balanced scoring effort and a decisive fourth-quarter run to hand Njardvik their second home defeat of the season.

Match Overview

Valur Reykjavik led for most of the game but had to withstand a spirited Njardvik comeback in the third quarter. The visitors shot 48% from the field and made 11 three-pointers, while their defense forced 17 turnovers. Njardvik, playing without their starting point guard, struggled to find rhythm offensively in the final period, managing just 22 points. The win improves Valur to 3-1, while Njardvik fall to 2-2.

Key Moments

Njardvik trailed 70-63 entering the fourth quarter but opened the period with a 7-2 run to pull within two at 72-70. Valur's veteran guard Kristjan Aegisson then took over, scoring eight straight points for his team, including two deep three-pointers that pushed the lead back to 80-72. Njardvik could not recover, and Valur iced the game at the free-throw line in the final minute.

Tactical Story

Valur Reykjavik's offense was a model of efficiency, with crisp ball movement and timely cuts. They assisted on 22 of their 34 made field goals and consistently exploited Njardvik's overhelping defense. Defensively, Valur packed the paint and dared Njardvik to shoot from outside; the hosts obliged, going just 9-of-30 from three-point range. Valur also dominated the offensive glass, grabbing 11 offensive rebounds and scoring 15 second-chance points. Njardvik's effort was admirable, but their half-court offense became stagnant in key moments.

Standout Players

• Kristjan Aegisson (Valur Reykjavik): 24 points, 6 assists. Aegisson was the closer, hitting big shots whenever Njardvik threatened.
• Bjorn Sigurdarson (UMFN Njardvik): 20 points, 10 rebounds. A double-double effort that kept his team in contention.
• Haukur Olafsson (Valur Reykjavik): 16 points, 8 rebounds. Provided a steady interior presence on both ends.

League Impact

Valur Reykjavik's win keeps them near the top of the Iceland Basketball Premier League standings at 3-1, while Njardvik drop to .500. The road victory is a significant confidence booster for Valur, who have now won two straight away from home. Njardvik will need to regroup quickly, as their upcoming schedule features three consecutive games against teams above them in the table.
