Alftanes vs Hottur: Alftanes Dominate 111-77 in Iceland Basketball Premier League

Alftanes delivered one of the most convincing performances of the early Iceland Basketball Premier League season on October 9, 2026, rolling past Hottur 111-77 on their home floor. The 34-point win was built on relentless pace, sharp perimeter shooting and a defensive effort that never allowed Hottur to settle into a comfortable rhythm.

From the opening minutes, Alftanes looked like the sharper and more aggressive side. They moved the ball quickly, attacked the basket with purpose and turned defensive stops into easy transition points. By the time the final buzzer sounded, the scoreline reflected a complete four-quarter performance and a clear statement in the Úrvalsdeild karla standings.

Match Overview

Final score: Alftanes 111, Hottur 77
Competition: Iceland Basketball Premier League
Date: October 9, 2026
Result: Alftanes win by 34 points

Alftanes reached the century mark with plenty of time to spare, finishing with 111 points in a game that was effectively decided before the fourth quarter. Hottur had moments of promise, particularly when their guards found driving lanes in the second period, but they could not match Alftanes’ consistency at either end of the court.

The win gives Alftanes an important early-season boost and reinforces their reputation as a team capable of scoring in bunches. For Hottur, it is a result that will require a quick review, especially on the defensive glass and in half-court execution.

Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown

• First quarter: Alftanes 28, Hottur 18 — Alftanes set the tone with a 10-2 opening run and controlled the tempo early.
• Second quarter: Alftanes 30, Hottur 22 — A 12-0 surge midway through the period pushed the lead beyond 20 points.
• Third quarter: Alftanes 26, Hottur 19 — Hottur briefly threatened, but Alftanes answered every mini-run with a bigger one.
• Fourth quarter: Alftanes 27, Hottur 18 — The bench extended the advantage and closed out the game comfortably.

At halftime, Alftanes led 58-40. By the end of the third, the margin had grown to 84-59, and the final 12 minutes were more about maintaining standards than protecting a lead. The 111-77 final score underlined just how dominant Alftanes were on both ends.

Key Moments That Decided the Game

• Opening statement: Alftanes scored on their first four possessions and forced Hottur into two early turnovers, setting up a 10-2 run.
• Second-quarter explosion: A 12-0 run, fueled by back-to-back three-pointers and a fast-break dunk, turned a competitive game into a 24-point cushion.
• Hottur’s best stretch: Early in the third quarter, Hottur cut the deficit to 14 with a 7-0 run, but Alftanes responded with a 9-2 spurt to restore full control.
• Bench close-out: In the fourth, Alftanes’ reserves kept the intensity high, extending the lead to 34 by the final buzzer.

The decisive stretch came before halftime. Hottur had no answer for Alftanes’ ball movement, and once the home side found their shooting rhythm from beyond the arc, the game became a matter of how large the final margin would be.

Tactical Story: Pressure, Pace and Perimeter Precision

Alftanes won this game with a simple but effective formula: defend aggressively, rebound, and run. Their pressure on the ball disrupted Hottur’s entry passes, and their help defense rotated quickly enough to contest shots at the rim. That defense translated directly into offense, with Alftanes scoring repeatedly in transition before Hottur could set up their half-court defense.

Offensively, Alftanes played inside-out. When Hottur collapsed on drives, kick-out passes found open shooters. When Hottur stayed home on the perimeter, Alftanes attacked the basket. That balance made them nearly impossible to guard. They also dominated the offensive glass, creating second-chance points that repeatedly broke Hottur’s momentum.

Hottur, by contrast, struggled with consistency. Their half-court offense often stalled into contested jumpers, and their turnovers allowed Alftanes to play the open-court style they prefer. Defensively, Hottur had no reliable answer for Alftanes’ pick-and-roll attack, especially when the ball-handler turned the corner and forced help defenders to make split-second decisions.
