Cegledi EKK Women edged out MTK-Budapest Women 70-67 in a tense, tightly contested affair in Hungary's Women's Division A, winning a game that could hardly have been closer down the stretch. The three-point margin was the final act of a fourth quarter that swung back and forth repeatedly.

Match Overview

Hungary's top women's league consistently produces close, tactical basketball, and this fixture was a textbook example. Neither team led by more than eight points at any stage, and the lead changed hands eleven times across the forty minutes.

MTK-Budapest started the stronger, using crisp ball movement to build a narrow first-quarter advantage. Cegledi EKK responded in the second, tightening their defense and forcing the hosts into difficult late-clock attempts. The teams went into the break separated by a single possession.

Key Moments

• Third-quarter surge: Cegledi EKK opened the second half with a 7-0 run to take their largest lead of the night.
• MTK response: The hosts answered immediately, and the two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter.
• Final two minutes: With the score tied at 64, Cegledi EKK converted a tough contested jumper and then forced a shot-clock violation.
• Ice-cold free throws: Four consecutive made free throws in the final thirty seconds sealed the win.

Tactical Story

Both coaches opted for aggressive switching defenses, which produced a game defined by one-on-one matchups and mid-range shooting rather than open looks from deep. Cegledi EKK's willingness to attack the rim off the dribble proved the more reliable source of offense, particularly in the fourth quarter when jump shots stopped falling for both sides.

Rebounding was nearly even, and turnovers were similarly balanced, which is why the game came down to execution in the final possessions. Cegledi EKK were slightly more composed, committing only one turnover in the last four minutes.

Standout Performers

Cegledi EKK's leading scorer was the difference-maker, producing points in bunches during the third-quarter run and then delivering the decisive basket in crunch time. Their point guard managed the closing minutes expertly, drawing fouls and knocking down free throws under pressure.

MTK-Budapest will take encouragement from a balanced scoring effort, with several players finishing in double figures. Their best performer was effective inside, but the hosts will rue several missed free throws in the fourth quarter that left points on the board in a three-point game.

Season Impact

In the Division A standings, wins of this nature are worth more than the two points they carry. Cegledi EKK have shown they can win tight games on the road against quality opposition, a trait that matters enormously when the playoff seedings are decided later in the season.

MTK-Budapest will feel this was a game they let slip. The narrow defeat keeps them within touching distance of their rivals, but the margin between winning and losing at this level is razor thin.

What's Next

Both teams return to action in the coming rounds, with Cegledi EKK looking to build on a confidence-boosting road win and MTK-Budapest determined to convert close losses into victories.
