Suchitepequez Maxi claim 77-61 home victory over Quiche Maxi in Guatemala Maxi

Suchitepequez Maxi produced a controlled offensive display to beat Quiche Maxi 77-61 in the Guatemala Maxi league. The home side set the tone early, built a double-digit lead by halftime and answered every Quiche run with timely baskets, securing a win that underlined their scoring depth and their ability to dictate tempo.

The 77-61 final score was built on a strong first-half foundation and a consistent second-half response. Suchitepequez never allowed Quiche to fully settle into their half-court offense, and the hosts’ rebounding advantage gave them repeated chances to extend possessions. The result adds an important victory to Suchitepequez’s league campaign and gives them positive momentum in the standings.

Match overview

Suchitepequez opened the game with aggressive movement and took a 20-14 lead after the first quarter. Quiche Maxi stayed within reach through the early part of the second period, but Suchitepequez’s defensive pressure and transition scoring helped them pull away. A 19-16 second quarter gave the hosts a comfortable cushion at the break.

The third quarter proved decisive. Suchitepequez outscored Quiche 21-15, stretching the lead and forcing the visitors into a more hurried approach. Quiche continued to compete in the fourth, but Suchitepequez managed the game well, kept the tempo under control and closed out the win without allowing a late scare.

Why Suchitepequez Maxi controlled the contest

Suchitepequez’s victory was rooted in efficiency. They moved the ball well, found open shooters and attacked the basket when Quiche overextended on the perimeter. Their big men also made an impact on the boards, limiting Quiche’s second-chance points and allowing the hosts to play with greater confidence at both ends.

Quiche Maxi had their bright spots, especially when they pushed the pace and attacked before the Suchitepequez defense could set. However, they struggled to string together enough stops in the third quarter, and their outside shooting was not consistent enough to pull them back into contention. The visitors will take encouragement from their effort but will need a more complete defensive performance in their next outing.

Standings and season impact

The win gives Suchitepequez Maxi a valuable boost in the Guatemala Maxi standings and reinforces their home-court strength. It also improves their head-to-head position against Quiche Maxi, which could matter as the season progresses. For Quiche, the loss is a reminder that they must find more balance between their transition game and their half-court execution.

Suchitepequez will look to carry the same intensity into their next fixtures, while Quiche Maxi will focus on tightening their defense and reducing the scoring runs that allowed the hosts to pull away. On this evidence, Suchitepequez Maxi are a difficult team to contain when their guards and frontcourt are working together.
