Key moments

The fourth quarter delivered the drama. Orbi erased a small deficit and took an 88-86 lead with just over two minutes remaining, sparking the home crowd. Rustavi responded immediately with a composed possession that ended in a three-point play, then added another quick basket to retake control.

Orbi had chances to tie in the final minute, but Rustavi forced a difficult shot and secured the rebound. Free throws in the closing seconds stretched the lead to three, and Orbi’s last attempt from beyond the arc rimmed out. In a game featuring 187 combined points, the final defensive possessions made the difference.

Tactical story

Rustavi’s half-court offense was the story of the night. The visitors moved the ball patiently, attacked closeouts, and found open shooters when Orbi helped inside. Their ability to score in the final five seconds of several possessions frustrated Orbi’s defense and kept the visitors within reach even when the home side seemed to have momentum.

Orbi were at their best in transition, using quick outlets and aggressive drives to put pressure on Rustavi’s backcourt. The home side also won important offensive rebounds, but their half-court execution stalled at key moments in the fourth quarter. Rustavi’s switching defense forced Orbi into contested jumpers late, and that proved decisive.

Standout performers

Rustavi’s guards controlled the tempo and made several big plays in the closing minutes. Their shot selection was strong throughout, and they consistently found the open man against Orbi’s pressure. The frontcourt contributed timely finishes around the rim and held up on the defensive glass when Orbi tried to extend possessions.

Orbi received balanced scoring and kept the game close with energy and transition play. The home side’s effort on the offensive boards kept them in contention, but late turnovers and missed free throws cost them a chance to steal the win.

What the result means

The road win strengthens Energy Invest Rustavi 1991’s position in the Georgia Super League and underlines their ability to execute in tight games. For Orbi, the loss is a frustrating one because they led late and had opportunities to force overtime. Both teams will take lessons from a contest that showed how thin the margin can be in the Super League.
