Oion Ag. Stefanoy secured a hard-fought 86-77 victory over Acharnis LFM in a Greece B ESKA basketball matchup, pulling away in the second half to claim a nine-point win on home ground. The result gives Oion a valuable boost in the league table, while Acharnis LFM are left to regroup after a competitive but ultimately unsuccessful road trip.

Match Overview

The opening quarter set the tone for a fast-paced, physical contest. Acharnis LFM came out aggressively, attacking the basket and knocking down perimeter shots to stay neck-and-neck with the hosts. Oion Ag. Stefanoy answered with balanced scoring and strong work on the offensive boards, ensuring the visitors never managed to build a meaningful cushion.

By halftime, the game remained within reach for both sides, but Oion's defensive adjustments after the break proved decisive. The hosts tightened their pick-and-roll coverage, forced contested shots, and turned stops into transition points, gradually stretching their advantage over the third and fourth quarters.

Key Moments

• First half: Acharnis LFM traded baskets with the hosts and kept the deficit in single digits, showing good shooting rhythm from the perimeter.
• Third-quarter break: Oion opened the second half with a run anchored by defensive stops and quick outlet passes, creating the game's first real separation.
• Fourth-quarter response: Acharnis LFM cut into the lead with a series of three-pointers, but Oion answered each time at the free-throw line.
• Closing minutes: The hosts controlled the tempo, ran the clock, and sealed the result with efficient half-court possessions.

Tactical Story

Oion Ag. Stefanoy's success came from defensive discipline and rebounding. By limiting second-chance opportunities and closing out hard on shooters, the hosts forced Acharnis LFM into lower-percentage attempts as the game wore on. On offense, Oion shared the ball effectively, with multiple players contributing and the attack flowing through both the post and the perimeter.

Acharnis LFM's strengths were evident early — quick ball movement, aggressive drives, and confident outside shooting. However, foul trouble and a stretch of turnovers in the third quarter disrupted their rhythm, and they were unable to fully recover despite a spirited late push.

Standout Performers

The hosts received a well-rounded team effort, with guards dictating pace and forwards battling inside for key rebounds. Free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter was a particular bright spot, allowing Oion to preserve its lead when Acharnis LFM threatened a comeback.

For the visitors, the backcourt carried much of the scoring load, creating shots off the dribble and keeping the game close into the final period. Their effort on the defensive end created several transition chances, but converting those opportunities consistently proved difficult against a settled Oion defense.

What It Means
