• Komotini: 18-20-16-23 — 77

Key Moments

The turning point arrived midway through the third quarter. With Panionios ahead by just three, the hosts strung together a 10-2 run powered by transition baskets and offensive rebounds. That burst pushed the lead to double digits and forced Komotini into a timeout. Komotini refused to fade, cutting the deficit to 78-75 in the final two minutes behind back-to-back three-pointers. Panionios, however, settled the game with four straight free throws and a crucial defensive stop in the closing seconds.

Tactical Story

Panionios’ half-court defense was the foundation of the win. The hosts switched aggressively on screens, limited Komotini’s clean looks from the perimeter for three quarters, and controlled the defensive glass. On offense, Panionios attacked the paint early, then used drive-and-kick actions to create open corner threes. Komotini adjusted by speeding up the tempo in the fourth, but the late surge could not erase the third-quarter deficit.

Standout Players

Panionios guard Nikos Theodorou led the winners with 19 points, including several timely baskets in the third-quarter run. Forward Giannis Rallis added 14 points and 9 rebounds, while the bench contributed important minutes on defense. For Komotini, Marios Petrou scored a game-high 20 points, and Alexandros Vrettos finished with 15 points and 7 assists in a losing effort.

Season Impact

The victory gives Panionios a valuable home result in the Greece A2 standings and reinforces their push near the top of the table. For Komotini, the loss is a frustrating one because the team competed until the final possession, but it also shows they can trade blows with one of the league’s stronger sides. The head-to-head result could matter if both teams remain in the promotion conversation later in the season.
