Match Overview: A Grind From Start to Finish

Both teams prioritized defense, and the result was a low-scoring, physical contest with very few easy baskets. Amyntas built their offense around post entries and offensive rebounds, while Makris relied on guard penetration and kick-out threes. Neither team shot the ball particularly well, but both competed on every possession.

The third quarter proved decisive. Amyntas opened the second half with a 10-2 run, turning a two-point halftime deficit into a six-point lead. That cushion, small as it was, gave the hosts enough of a buffer to survive Makris' late push.

Key Moments

With 40 seconds left and the score tied at 63, Amyntas ran a high pick-and-roll that drew a switch. Their guard attacked the big man off the dribble, drew contact, and sank both free throws to put the hosts up two. Makris called timeout to set up a final play, but the resulting mid-range jumper missed, and Amyntas secured the rebound to seal the win.

Tactical Story: Defense and Free Throws

Amyntas' defensive game plan centered on taking away Makris' three-point line. They closed out hard on shooters, fought over screens, and forced Makris into mid-range attempts — a lower-percentage shot in the modern game. The strategy worked: Makris finished well below their usual output from beyond the arc.

On the other end, Amyntas generated just enough offense through second-chance points and free throws. Their ability to get to the line in the fourth quarter, particularly in the final minute, was the difference in a game this tight.

Standout Performers

Amyntas' center was the anchor, scoring in the paint and altering multiple shots at the rim. Their point guard controlled tempo and made the decisive free throws. For Makris, the starting shooting guard kept them in the game with tough shot-making, and the backup forward provided a spark on the offensive glass.

Greece A2 Standings Context

The victory pushes Neoi AO Amyntas up the Greece A2 table and gives them a confidence-boosting win in a game that could easily have gone the other way. Esn Makris leave with a narrow defeat but will take heart from their defensive effort and their ability to stay within striking distance on the road. In a division defined by parity, a two-point result like this can shape the playoff race for months.
